The Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) intends to issue, on behalf of the Solar Energy Technology Office, a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) entitled Solar Desalination . This FOA supports research, development, and potential demonstration of early stage technologies that can significantly reduce the costs of desalination powered by solar thermal energy. Rather than utilizing high-value electricity as an energy input, solar thermal desalination can achieve lower costs than current reverse osmosis systems by lowering the cost of collecting and storing solar thermal energy and increasing the efficiency of thermal desalination technologies. Additionally, thermal desalination can be utilized over a wide range of salt content, making it attractive for applications that require very high salinity feedwater or zero-liquid discharge. Applicants will be expected to propose ideas that have the potential to dramatically decrease the cost of producing solar thermal energy, advance early-stage thermal desalination technologies, or design novel integrated systems that creatively use solar thermal energy to lower the cost of producing fresh water. It is anticipated that the FOA may include the following Areas of Interest: Area of Interest 1 Low cost solar thermal heat - innovative concepts that have the potential to lower the cost of solar thermal collection, transport, and storage below conventional methods of generating heat. Area of Interest 2 Innovative thermal desalination techniques - Novel, early-stage thermal desalination technologies that are well suited to be coupled with solar generated heat. Area of Interest 3 Solar thermal integrated desalination - Integrated solar thermal desalination systems showing the potential for low-cost desalinated water. Area of Interest 4 Solar thermal desalination analysis - Analytic tools, such as systems models, for economic evaluation and resource optimization with solar thermal desalination. Base Cooperative Agreement between the National Park Service and the National Association of Tribal Historic Preservation Officers

The objective of this Agreement is to provide experiential outdoor experiences that promote physical and emotional health, civic engagement, and long-term appreciation for nature to children in underserved communities. These experiences will be accomplished by providing access through transportation grants, achieving relevancy through connecting children and their families to the parks, and providing in-park educational opportunities to experience nature, history and culture, learn about biodiversity and the environment, and to engage with each other in the outdoors.

The purpose of this Agreement is to provide Federal financial assistance for the funding of a fellowship program through the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Science and Technology which enables competitively selected scientist and engineers to learn first-hand about the use of science and technology in federal government decision making, policies and programs while offering valuable contributions of their knowledge and analytical skills to federal agencies. The Agreement will connect science with National Park Service policy and foster a network of science and engineering leaders who understand the National Park Service and policymaking, and are prepared to develop and execute solutions to address societal challenges.

The National Park Service will work with River Network to develop tools and training for local river and watershed protection and organizational development. Through this partnership NPS and River Network will: (1) Promote local river conservation and protection efforts by communities. This work may include the development of local river protections tools and model river protection projects. (2) Support collaborative planning and implementation, virtually or in person, of education and training opportunities including River Rally, which bring together watershed protection agencies and organizations for workshops and intensive trainings, as well as bringing conservation groups and public agencies together to address the latest river conservation ideas, programs, activities, and strategies. (3) Advancing river protection through partnerships between the NPS, River Network, and other federal, regional, state, and local initiatives, including but not limited to the Federal Urban Waters Partnership, Wild and Scenic Rivers, and National Water Trails. Continuing efforts to identify and engage new organizations and individuals as partners in local river protection activities. (4) Research and share funding for local river protection-related activities: Identifying potential sources of public and private funding to support local river protection projects, education, outreach, monitoring, and other activities undertaken by the NPS, River Network, and their partners. (5) Carry out other projects of mutual interest and public benefit in such areas as promotion, research, interagency coordination, technical assistance, and training related to river conservation and management issues.

The objective of this Agreement is to establish a formal relationship for coordination and collaboration between the Department of the Interior National Park Service (NPS) and Kutztown University of Pennsylvania (KU); specifically it s Frederick Douglass Institute (FDI). Both agencies propose to work together to engage communities in the attainment of educational excellence while contributing positively to both NPS and KU s missions.
