University Heights Center

University Heights Center located at 5031 University Way NE will install new elevators in their location to make the historic three-story center accessible for all visitors. The funds will be used for permits, surveying, hazardous consultants, and architectural design. The phase I of the project is expected to be completed by the end of January of 2020.

University Heights Center

University Heights Life Safety Building Project located at 5031 University Way NE will provide essential upgrades to preserve the historic facility. The project centers patron safety, allowing the center to better serve the resident organizations, visitors, and clients, and ensures that U-Heights remains a healthy, functional building into the future. The grant request is for the pre-construction architecture and engineering services to ensure the structural integrity of the facility's exterior cladding and to address fire code requirements.

Over Educated Minority Artists - OEMA

The Labateyah Harvest Feast scheduled for Saturday, November 18th at 9010-13th Avenue NW, from 3:00-8:00 pm will be a time of art, music, dance, poetry, and food. This gathering of people young and old, is an ancient tradition of the Northwest Indigenous tribes. History is told and artwork is traded in an effort to create relationships. Music and dance are performed to inspire and uplift.

Unified Outreach

The Unified Outreach Race and Culture Dialogue Series will produce 6 events in 2020 that will provide new and innovative ways of discussing and providing credible concepts for disassembling institutional and historic racism. The first event will be at North Seattle College, 9600 College Way N, on January 16, 2020 beginning at 6:00 p.m. This project will be completed by June 30, 2020.

United Way of King County

United Way of King County in Seattle, WA ($60M annually) funds nonprofits focused on education, financial stability, housing, health. Typical awards range from $10,000 to $350,000.

Unity in the Community Committee

Unity In the Community Block Party will bring together individual members of the community and families to participate, observe or congregate. This event is to bring fitness and proper nutrition awareness to BIPOC families. The event will be held at 3 locations. All events will be held on Saturdays from 1-4pm. The first event will be held on Aug. 20th at the Rainier Beach Community Center located at 8825 Rainier Ave S Seattle WA. Two other events will be held at the Yesler Community Center. At the events, vendors will provide nutrition and fitness education, healthy eating with guest speakers discussing various fitness related topics. The project goal is to show families a healthy lifestyle is a way of living, including diet and exercise and regular doctor visits. The anticipated project completion date is December 31, 2022.

Interbay P-Patch Community Garden

This will be a phased project to make accessible, universal inclusive beds. The first phase will be to take existing plots about 600sq ft and level the ground to start with the foundation/flooring of gravel and ensure its firm enough and level for accessibility. The second phase will be to purchase the containers and level out the pavers that lead to the plot as well as redo the hose area. The third and final phase will be to add in benches, storage area and also ergonomic hand tools. The anticipated project completion date is March 31., 2025.

Young Men's Christian Association of Greater Seattle

Support from the Neighborhood Matching Fund will allow the YMCA of Greater Seattle (YGS or the Y) to renovate the University Family Y Branch kitchen, which operates the Y’s Community Meals program and Magnuson Park Community Food Pantry. These much-needed improvements would expand the capacity of both programs and create a safer environment for participants and volunteers. To celebrate the completion of the renovations, the Y will hold a resource fair that is free and open to the public on June 21, 2026, at location on 5003 12th Ave NE, Seattle, WA 98105 where participants can receive free clothing and hygiene products, haircuts and showers, and access medical care during a regularly scheduled community meal.

Somali Independent Business Alliance

The Somali Independent Business Alliance (SIBA) is launching a project to empower Somali small businesses citywide. The project will involve a comprehensive one-on-one survey and a subsequent workshop to identify and address the unique needs and challenges of this community. The survey will collect data on operational challenges, resource gaps, community impact, and future aspirations of 20-25 Somali small businesses. At the end we will hold a workshop that will provide valuable information and guidance on topics such as financial resources, marketing strategies, and legal assistance. This workshop will also provide a platform for businesses to network and collaborate. SIBA aims to empower small business and thus lead to economic growth through this project. Giving businesses knowledge to find the right resources will enhance decision-making and economic performance. This will in turn benefit the entire city.

Low Income Housing Institute

The Low Income Housing Institute will host a free monthly concert series featuring local jazz, blues, folk, rock, and other styles of music. The series will take place from December 2017 - November 2018 at Ernestine Anderson Place located at 2010 S Jackson St. It will bring a wide range of community members together for entertaining events that pay tribute to the history of the Central District neighborhood.

UpGarden P-Patch

The UpGarden P-Patch located on 300 Mercer Street will engage community to help beautify and enhance the free and open to public garden by restoring garden beds, irrigation system, refreshing signage and adding new features such as gazebo, benches and bike racks. The project is expected to be completed by December 2021.

Friends of Uptown Art Walk

The friends of Uptown Art walk will be launching from May 2nd to May 30th, 2025, a transformative gallery show and community activation revitalizing the Uptown arts scene while championing fat liberation, mutual aid, and inclusion—particularly for QTBIPOC individuals. Through strategic outreach, partnerships with local businesses/arts organizations, and promotion, this project will strengthen participation in Third Thursday Art Walks, fostering a thriving arts ecosystem. FAT, a fat liberation gallery show hosted at The Fishbowl Gallery, located at 323 2nd Ave W will feature artwork, discussions, and interactive programming that challenge societal norms and celebrate fatness. Programming includes an opening reception, vendor market, movement session, speaker event, clothing swap, healing arts workshop, community discussion, and closing reception—empowering attendees to embrace body autonomy and liberation. The event is free and open to the public.

Uptown Arts & Culture Coalition

Uptown Arts & Culture Coalition (UACC) seeks funding for a community movie night at Counterbalance Park on September 19, 2024. This event will engage the neighborhood with a free, family-friendly screening of short films during Uptown Artwalk. Specific event goals: attract 150+ attendees; engage 5+ local businesses for partner promotion; increase Uptown Artwalk attendance; highlight Uptown arts & culture organizations; demonstrate Counterbalance Park's potential as a public, outdoor event venue. Seattle Parks & Recreation will provide A/V; SIFF will provide film curation; Uptown Alliance, Tidy Uptown, Uptown Artwalk, & UACC will share planning and promotion. We hope to purchase ADA-accessible planking to ensure wheelchair access to the gravel-covered park. We seek support for event insurance, film licensing fees, and complimentary refreshments. We respectfully request $3,000 to support this community-led event to benefit residents, artists, and businesses in Uptown.

Shunpike

Shunpike will carry out a three-phase public art project that starts with artist residencies on the former site of Teatro Zinzanni, continues with the Artists of Color Expo & Symposium (ACES) in the Armory at Seattle Center on November 17-18th, and concludes with community-generated and youth-created murals surrounding the Seattle International Film Festival's Uptown Cinema. Resident artists will show their work and speak of their experience at ACES. This will inform the public art intended for the Uptown Cinema murals, ensuring community and youth engagement through a racial equity lens.

NE Sector Emergency Communication HUBs

The NE Sector Emergency Communications HUBs will host the Urban Survival Skills fair by closing off a street and staffing booths to include information on water purification, emergency sanitation, controlling utilities, and many other important skills needed after a disaster. Additionally there will be a free raffle to give away 10 emergency toilets. The fair will be located at NE 106th Street between 17th Avenue NE and 19th Avenue NE on September 30, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This project will be completed by October 31, 2018.

Sanctuary Art Center

Utility boxes are a necessary part of the urban streetscape as the provide the essential controls to our trafic lights, however they are simply there for ?Utility? and to a passer by amount to nothing more than a large grey obstruction. This project aims to build community through the transformation of the Utility Boxes in the U District from ordinary obstructions into a community assets that contribute to both placemaking and wayfinding.

Van Lang

The Van Lang non-profit organization will host a six month series of free language workshops. The workshops are free and open to youth and adults. They will offer both Vietnamese and English as a second language. In addition to language instruction, they will offer cross cultural opportunities to learn about Vietnamese culture.

Velocity Dance Center

Velocity Dance Center along with key community partners will host The Fall Kick Off Symposium Monday September 16th through Friday, September 21st at 1621 12th Avenue, Suite 100. This week-long community celebration with social justice themes, will bring together dancers and choreographers for a series of free classes, panels and symposia, workshops, and a cross-disciplinary mixer. It also serves to launch the 'dance season' in Seattle.
