Partnership to Reduce Child Labor and Forced Labor in Imported Agricultural Products

This Notice of Intent (NOI) is not a request for funding applications. Subject to the availability of funds, USDOL s Bureau of International Labor Affairs (ILAB) intends to award, through a competitive process, one or more cooperative agreements to design and pilot test a comprehensive, sustainable program for one or more companies that implements all elements of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Guidelines for Eliminating Child and Forced Labor in Agricultural Supply Chains, based on the recommendations of the Consultative Group to Eliminate the Use of Child Labor and Forced Labor in Imported Agricultural Products. The project will establish and pilot a program for one or more companies to reduce child labor (and forced labor where applicable) in one agricultural supply chain in one country; evaluate the effectiveness of this program and collect reliable data on child labor (and forced labor where applicable); and document lessons learned and recommendations for future application of the USDA Guidelines. The project must involve a partnership between a non-governmental organization and one or more company/ies. Global Gold Mining Project

This Notice of Intent (NOI) is not a request for funding applications. Subject to the availability of funds, USDOL s Bureau of International Labor Affairs (ILAB) intends to award, through a competitive process, one or more cooperative agreements to organizations to implement a project(s) to develop and implement strategies to reduce child labor and improve working conditions in artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM), including by convening key stakeholders to support the effort. The project will include action at the country level and the global level. In two pilot countries Ghana and the Philippines the project will convene a wide range of stakeholders and support actions to (1) strengthen and enforce laws and develop and implement policies and action plans to address child labor and working conditions in ASGM; (2) increase access of ASGM child laborers, their households, and other households vulnerable to child labor to social protection services and programs to improve ASGM mining practices; and (3) develop and implement mechanisms to increase transparency and monitor child labor and working conditions in gold mining supply chains, with a particular focus on ASGM. At the global level, the project will develop networks and promote the sharing of good practices among stakeholders in countries, including but not limited to the two pilot countries, where ASGM is significant. Enforcement of Labor Laws in the Agricultural Export Sector of Costa Rica

The implementer is expected to improve enforcement by undertaking activities that will: 1) increase the number of cases filed and effectively litigated based on minimum wage, hours of work, and occupational safety and health violations, and 2) ensure judges employ their knowledge and skills to adjudicate cases in accordance with the newly adopted Procedural Labor Code Reform.
