The Alliance for Pioneer Square

The Alliance for Pioneer Square will develop a detailed how-to guide for the repair and replacement of our sidewalk prism glass; a defining asset in our National Historic District. Many sidewalks with prism panels exist today, but a majority need attention. This guide will provide a tool for property owners and managers to repair and replace prism glass in a manner that preserves this asset in the historic district. This project will start on November 17, 2017 and will be completed by January 31, 2018.

Belltown United

Belltown United will bring people together in a community-driven creative placemaking experience that will result in a collection of public street, traffic box, and sidewalk installations of relevant and engaging imagery and prose, with online (web-based) support to be sure it remains available to the community. The installation will contain visual art that identifies the distinct character of the Belltown neighborhood, from a collective understanding of the community's experiences and Belltown's history and cultural significance. The digital component will be integrated with the art to provides a storytelling experience for the pedestrian, linking them to the past, present, and future of Belltown. This project will be completed by August 31, 2023.

Casa Latina

Casa Latina will work with community artists to lead a community design process to create a mural on Casa Latina's building located at 317 17th Ave S. The mural represents day workers and domestic workers, and the Latinx community at large. The mural design will be developed based upon input gathered at free and open to public workshops starting March 2020 at Casa Latina. The workshops will also included community-cooked meal and music in Spanish.

The Eli's Park Project

A landscape architect-led design team will facilitate the community engagement process for the renovation of the Burke-Gilman Playground Park. Over the next several months, a minimum of three public meetings are planned along with several additional outreach activities. This phase will result in a schematic design and preliminary cost estimates. The anticipated completion date is May of 2019.

Rainier Avenue Radio

Rainier Avenue Radio will create a community-based architectural design and building cost estimates for the approximately 1,200 square foot space that will serve as the future location of a community radio studio. The space is located on the second story of the Royal Esquire Club located at 5016 Rainier Ave and will be designed to have a separate entrance from the Royal Esquire Club. Community input and design work will take place during the winter of 2017.

Carleton Park Garden Club

The Carleton Park Garden Club will complete a large-scale restoration of the traffic median located at 34th Ave West between West McGraw Street and Viewmont Way West. The restoration will beautify and increase the quality of life in the neighborhood. The restoration will create a beautiful garden using low growing, low maintenance and low water usage plants. This project will be completed by June 30, 2023.

Friends and Neighbors of Mt Zion Baptist Church

The Friends and Neighbors of Mt Zion Baptist Church community group are coordinating the planting of eight Akebono Cherry trees and landscape with bushes the planting strip located at 1634 19th Ave. The event is free and open to public participation. The project will be completed by the end of August 2022.

Green Lake Elementary PTA

The project is to improve the playground at the Greenlake Elementary School, located at 2400 N 65th St Seattle WA , into a more equitable, inclusive, and enjoyable space. The fund will be used to install a new ADA accessible ramp from the school to the playground, create a hillside play space with play features, seating areas, and accessible slides and replace wood chips with wheelchair accessible artificial turf surface. The anticipated project close out date is December 31, 2021.

Louisa Boren STEM PTA

The Louisa Boren School Community is embarking on a project to make the playground more family friendly for use by the neighborhood. The project includes the installation of a bench to serve as a resting place, a site clean up and adding paint to 4 square courts and the area adjacent to the new bench. A community celebration at the playground, 5950 Delridge Way South West, is planned for June.

Queen Anne Greenways

Queen Anne Greenways will host two neighborhood Playstreets: one on July 26, the other on August 30, 2018. The Playstreets are designed to help build support for Queen Anne Greenways, demonstrate the value of a car-free environment and create a really fun space for children and adults. The car-free environment includes riding bikes, trikes and scooters, dancing to a live band, games, educational outreach materials, and opportunities to share our vision of safe streets for people of all ages and abilities. The Playstreets will take place adjacent to the popular QA Farmers Market.

Pacific Northwest Black Pioneers

Relative of Old Timers (ROOTS) will celebrate its 50th Anniversary on September 4th from 10a.m. to 6 p.m. The celebration will be held at Jimi Hendrix and Sam Smith Parks located at 2400 S Massachusetts St Seattle WA 98144. During COVID, there was a call for recipes to be submitted to develop a 50th Anniversary ROOTS Cookbook. We intend to do outreach during the celebration with information on how to submit recipes to complete the cookbook for publication and distribution as a historical and lifetime remembrance of friends, family, good food and the many stories that accompany these recipes.

Grants to port areas for maritime security risk management, training, exercises, and equipment to protect critical port infrastructure.

Belltown United

Belltown United, an all-volunteer community non-profit, passionately advocates for improvements in Belltown. Our sustained efforts at the Portal Park site have gained momentum bringing public art, outdoor programs, and public interest to the space. This momentum has rallied increasing support for transforming Portal Park into a vibrant community open/green space. Now at a critical juncture, Belltown United must balance patience with proactive engagement. The optimal solution, both for the community and from a political standpoint, is to keep activating Portal Park and involving our community in all aspects of advocacy, activation, and design. These efforts ensure our collective vision for a future park will become an admired feature of Belltown's landscape and community well-being. This year we propose two initiatives that build on our success from last year: a community engagement and public access initiative and a series of onsite public art activation(s).

Cascadia Poetics Lab

Postcards from Mapes Creek is poetry reading at the new Beer Shiva stage. A celebration of the Poetry Postcard Fest, which started in 2007 & in 2023 featured 518 participating poets from 8 different countries. We expect event attendance culled from local/regional postcard poets & neighborhood residents interested in poetry & place. The Poetry Postcard Fest is a marquee event of the Cascadia Poetics Lab, founded in 1993, based next door to the Atlantic City boat launch/Beer Shiva Park. We are collaborating with the Engage, Educate, & Discover at Mapes Creek/dxʷwuqʷəb partners. (This group spun-off from the Link2Lake committee, working to upgrade the experience on Henderson St. between the Link station & Lake Washington.) Some funding has been secured from the King County Water Resource Inventory Area. (WRIA).

Louisa Hotel Historic Jazz Murals

Prohibition-era murals were recently uncovered during renovation of the Louisa Hotel. This is the only known speakeasy / jazz club from the 1920s with its original murals intact in Seattle. Unfortunately these murals have been damaged by age and fire; the plaster is crumbling and paint peeling. The goal of this project is to is to preserve, restore, and exhibit these murals.

Renaissance 21

Project 3-DRIP (3D Revolution in Progress) by Star Tech Global Academy will develop 3D Creator Spaces in three underserved Teen Centers across Seattle: Garfield, Rainier Beach, and Southwest Teen Life Center. Free educational workshops hosted in the spaces will teach community participants to use 3D printers to craft everything from fidgets and key chains to essential replacement parts. Community members will be recruited and trained to lead the hands-on workshops, and the journey culminates in a 3D Creator Showcase that celebrates their innovative creations and builds new connections with Seattle's broader community of makers. Each location's improved space will be fully equipped with a 3D Printer, supplies, training tutorials, and resources. This project will engage underresourced communities in the 3D Revolution and fuel Seattle's next generation of creators, innovators, and entrepreneurs.

Renaissance 21

Project L.I.T. by Star Tech Global Academy will engage youth in multimedia art projects that uplift community spaces and connect with community leaders. This free project will be in hybrid format with both virtual and in-person participation in 3 Teen Centers across Seattle: Garfield, Rainier Beach, and Southwest Teen Life Center. Community members will be recruited as project staff to guide teens through workshops that teach leadership, community building, and multimedia design skills. Hands-on workshops will connect youth with role models and spotlight their work to improve community spaces and motivate to Lead, Inspire, and Transform (L.I.T.).

The Swish Program Steering Committee

SWISH (Serving With Integrity and Shooting Hoops) Is a pilot program created to serve African American young men through basketball & mentorship. This 14 week program for 30 youth will include basketball skills training, and educational workshops. The culminating event will be a 'Shots for Hope' tournament for the entire community. The program will operate Monday through Wednesday from 1-4pm at Cleveland High School, 5511 - 15th Avenue South.

One of the largest Catholic health systems in the West, providing grants for community health, homelessness, behavioral health, and food insecurity.

Cal Anderson Park Alliance

This public life study will gather and analyze data in support of developing a shared community vision for public space within the Capitol Hill EcoDistrict. This project is the first phase of a larger enterprise that will see the creation of a public realm plan for the Capitol Hill neighborhood. This phase of the project will be completed by January 31, 2020.

Seattle Repertory Theatre

Seattle Repertory Theatre will engage community members in theater with an emphasis on groups that are currently under-represented in theater. SRT will organize free skill workshops and rehearsals during the summer of 2017 leading to performances of The Odyssey on September 8-10, 2017 at the Seattle Repertory Theater main stage located at 155 Mercer St. Quarterly community-based theater workshops will be held from fall 2017 through spring 2018 at various locations throughout Seattle.

Seattle Repertory Theatre

Through Public Works Seattle, Seattle Rep will use the art of theatre to connect people with one another and with the city as a whole. Working collaboratively with five non-profits, the project will engage over 150 people to participate in free weekly workshops and attend monthly performances at the Seattle Repertory Theater. The project culminates in an ambitious work of participatory theater featuring a large community ensemble, with four free performances for 3,000 attendees.

Seattle Repertory Theatre

Seattle Repertory Theater will partner with local organizations to share theater experiences and the arts with audiences across Seattle, with an emphasis on engaging populations that face barriers to arts access. A twelve-week series of free workshops, rehearsals, performances and acting intensives will be offered during Fall 2019 to Spring 2020 at 7 different locations. The first workshop will be held at the Ballard Senior Center(5429 32nd Ave NW) and other locations.

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service

The Puget Sound Coastal Program is part of the USFWS’s National Coastal Program and was established to protect, restore, and enhance the natural resources of Washington’s coastal ecosystems.  The Coastal program works closely with partners to conserve fish, wildlife, plants and their habitats in Puget Sound, an “estuary of national significance.”
