Friends of Broadview Thomson

Friends of Broadview Thomson will hire a landscape architecture firm to lead a design process with community input and develop a schematic design for an improved school front by July 2018. Possible improvements include brightening the face of the school building with art or murals, adding benches to the front grounds, improving walkways and pedestrian connections, and constructing a safe, efficient drop-off/pick-up area.

Beaver Pond Friends and Neighbors

This project is a community-led effort to document neighborhood concerns about localized flooding, pedestrian accessibility, traffic congestion, and the integrity of the Beaver Pond Natural Area located at 8th Ave NE & NE 105th St. Our intent is to help the City to be responsive to the community in planning next steps.

Jewelbox Theater

The Jewelbox Theater is organizing the Belltown History Celebration (BHC) on October 27, 2019 from 5:00PM-9:00PM at 2322 Second Ave. The BHC is an immersive night of live performances highlighting the past hundred years of film row, speakeasies, grunge, and more. The event is intended to take participants on a journey through time by recreating historical scenes populated by professional artists and volunteers. The event is free and open to the public.

Urban Impact

The Boo Bash at the Beach serves thousands of kids and families by providing a FREE, safe and fun trick-or-treat experience on Halloween. The parking lot of the Rainier Beach Safeway is transformed into a treaters wonderland with dozens of booths hosted by Seattle city leaders, city departments, community groups and local merchants along with entertainment. Kids can trick or treat for spooky surprises, prizes, and sweet treats, hosted by local organizations and businesses. There will also be flu and COVID 19 vaccinations.

SouthEast Effective Development

Over the next twelve months Broadcasting SE Seattle Voices will educate & empower SE Seattle residents to produce community radio programs for KVRU 105.7 FM. The project includes: the development of a training program; the purchase of mobile recording and editing equipment for community use, and the equipment to broadcast live community programs. The equipment will be purchased and the training programs will be developed between September and December of 2018. The first series of classes is scheduled to begin in January of 2019, thereafter they will occur quarterly.

Brothers United In Leadership Development

BUILD 2022 is a series of community-building events to create leadership opportunities for Black men to positively impact, heal, unite, inspire, celebrate, engage & build their community. Events planned include BUILD Community Movie Nights, BUILD Holiday Bowl, BUILD Barbershop Series, and BUILD Community Kickball Event. The anticipated project completion is October 31, 2022.

Creating and implementing a 99% Indigenous-voiced UW Urban Forestry Symposium on 11/2/2023 at the UW Intellectual Longhouse is the goal. Building environmental awareness, understanding, and respect of First People's knowledge, protocols, cultural heritage, socio-ecological stewardship and ethics, and urban-focused policies for collective climate change, forestry and waters restoration, rejuvenation, and renewal affecting human impact, health, food sovereignty, and cultural applications (cedar carvings/uses) are scope areas. Purposeful vision is to Bridge, Build, Benefit, Beautify through relationships, teachings, cultural activities, engagement, and experiences of Indigenous ways for collective solutions.

The Friends of Jane Adams Middle School is working with design firm Johnson+Southerland, and surrounding community to create Schematic Design and Construction documents for the 1-mile campus running loop located at 11051 34th Ave NE on the Jane Adams Middle School Campus.

Cal Anderson Park Alliance

The annual Capitol Hill Garage Sale is an opportunity for neighborhood residents to activate Cal Anderson Park, to connect with one another, and to trade and sell their goods. Centered in the park, the garage sale encourages waste reduction and recycling. On Sunday, August 19 from 9am to 3pm at Cal Anderson Park 1635 11th Avenue, residents will become vendors of their own inventory either within the park or in front of their homes. The Cal Anderson Park Alliance (CAPA) along with the Capitol Hill EcoDistrict, a program of Capitol Hill Housing (CHH), and Capitol Hill Seattle Blog are hosting the event. Shoppers and vendors will enjoy a DJ and food trucks. This project will be completed by September 28, 2018.

Ethiopian Women Mothers & Family

The Ethiopian Women Mothers & Family group will organize a one-day festival to celebrate the accomplishments and empowerment of local Ethiopian Women and to celebrate Ethiopian culture as a whole. The event will be held on July 9, 2017 from 12pm - 9 pm at Powell Barnett Park located at 352 Martin Luther King Jr Way. It will feature live entertainment, informational booths, traditional coffee ceremonies, and an award ceremony to honor Ethiopian women who are making positive contributions in their community.

Seattle Asian American Film Festival

The Seattle Asian American Film Festival will screen free films at Hing Hay Park, 423 Maynard Avenue South on two successive Saturdays, August 18th and 25th, 2018. The films are targeted to Asian Americans in the surrounding community with the film on August 18th being screened in it's original Chinese language. The screening on August 25th will focus on the Japanese American internment during WWII. The films will be preceded by live performances and arts and crafts.
