Waters Median Project

The Rainier Beach community is gearing up for landscaping improvements along Waters Avenue South. Managed by the Waters Median Project, this initiative will build on the success of the previous four phases of this well-established neighborhood effort. We plan to remove invasive weeds and plants from a large section of the median, and will install a walking path, native and drought-tolerant perennials, and a native wildflower meadow. We’ll also install a small seating area with a bench. This project will improve the walkability and safety of the neighborhood and create habitat for Pacific Northwest flora and fauna in our urban area. The anticipated project completion date is February 28, 2026.

The Art of Alzheimer's

The Art of Alzheimer's will organize a series of arts-focused activities and workshops to raise awareness and reduce stigmas about people and families living with dementia. The activities will focus specifically on exploring these themes beyond wealthier, less diverse sections of the city. This project serves as a catalyst for more inclusion, hearing more voices, and reaching more people with compelling opportunities to overcome fear, foster empathy, and advance engagement.

Wedgwood Community Council

The Wedgwood Community Council will host a community-wide summer picnic on September 13, 2025. The picnic is free and open to everyone and is located at the Hunter Farm Gathering Place 7744 35th Ave NE. The picnic is an annual event in Wedgwood that brings people together around food, music, and shared community. The event provides opportunities for sponsors and community groups to host booths to share information useful for the community. This project will be completed by October 31, 2025.

Whatcom Community Foundation

Whatcom Community Foundation ($100M in assets) supports nonprofits in WA through grants focused on education, environment, community development, arts. Awards range from $1,000 to $50,000.

Seattle Indian Health Board

This project consists of conveying a story of learning, healing, and peacekeeping. To honor the life of Mr. John T. Williams, the Native American carver who died on the corner Boren and Howell. Expressed by a plaque, a painted crosswalk, and a healing ceremony.

Seattle Sensory Garden

While the Seattle Sensory Garden is open year-round, its current state lacks features that might engage and draw visitors to the garden during the time of year Seattleites need it most: the long gray winter. We wish to enrich the garden's offerings by adding plant material that will bring seasonal interest to the garden: winter-blooming flowers, fragrant shrubs, and trees with bold winter coloring. We also wish to refresh the vibrant blue entryway with fresh paint. Plant installation will be in partnership with the Woodland Park Zoo's Department of Horticulture, which will offer guidance and supervision around the selection and placement of plants. The infusion of new plant material and vibrant entryway color will support the Sensory Garden's mission to invite and engage community members of all abilities year-round with a beautiful, accessible space for all.

Ethiopian Women Mothers & Family

We will host the Women Coming OUT: A Post COVID-19 Celebration on September 4, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Seward Park located at 5900 Lake Washington Blvd S. We will celebrate the resilience of Ethiopian women who withered through COVID-19 and remember the loved ones lost. This project will be completed by October 29, 2021.

Friends of Woodland Park Avenue

We are seeking funds to make SDOT approved street modifications for improving safety and calming traffic on the stretch of Woodland Park Avenue North between 41st and 42nd streets in the Fremont/Wallingford neighborhood.
