Vietnamese Senior Association

This gathering will bring Vietnamese seniors, their friends and families together with members of the Central Area community to celebrate the harvest season through food, entertainment and other cultural activities. The event will be held on Friday, December 7, 2018 at Garfield Community Center, 2323 E Cherry Street, Seattle, from 11:30 - 3:30pm. It is free and open to the public.

Cleveland High School PTSA

The Cleveland High School PTSA will organize an event to promote community building, health, and wellness among South Seattle youth. The event will be held October 30, 2019 from 4 pm - 7 pm at Cleveland STEM High School located at 5511 15th Ave S. The event will offer demonstrations and activities that support wellness and cultivate a sense of belonging among youth and families.

Shared Spaces Foundation

Heron's Nest is a volunteer-led project focused on repatriating a 3.5 acre parcel of land to the Duwamish Tribe. To do this, the land will be purchased and placed in a trust held by Duwamish Tribal Services. Our goal for this land is to provide community accessible facilities including workshop, class, and meeting spaces, a recycling facility, office space, storage, and short term accommodations for tribal members. An important element of our plan is the development of an outdoor kitchen facility. We have preliminary plans to build the kitchen in the shape and style of a traditional Duwamish Longhouse with cedar beams and roof. With this funding award we will complete the first phase of the outdoor kitchen which includes finalizing the design and completing the permitting processes. Phase 1 of this project will be completed by December 29, 2023.

Friends of Highland Park Elementary

The Friends of Highland Park Elementary will hire a designer to create construction drawings based on our Conceptual Site Plan which was developed with a Small and Simple award. We will continue outreach efforts and work to ensure that the spaces created are inviting to the many cultures present in our community.

Hillman City P-Patch

The Hillman City P-Patch garden community plans to reclaim the accessible gravel paths and develop an accessible gardening area at the site. The project also includes an update to their 2010 visioning plan and the initiation of a monthly serieis of events designed to engage the gardeners, neighbors and partner organizations.

Multimedia Resources and Training Institute (MMRTI)

Multimedia Resources Training Institute will create a 1 hour documentary, 30 photo portraits, and other multimedia projects produced by youth interns.  They will focus on Seattle's Central Area, a Historic Arts and Cultural District. The project will empower youth to act as community advocates through photography and video.

Employment-focused grants for reintegrating homeless veterans into the workforce through job training, placement, and supportive services.

Black Child Development Institute

To honor Black Childcare providers and offer them resources that support their own care and their status as essential care givers, educators and business owners. This event is free and will include self-care advocates, nutrition support, dialogue with mental health professionals, business and finance consultants, and local funders. The event will be held from 10am until 3pm on October 22, 2022 at Rainier Beach Community Center.

GROW

This Eagle scout candidate project will bring a beautiful, decorative bulletin board to the Horiuchi P-Patch, to help increase communication between the gardeners at Horiuchi P-Patch and between the Horiuchi P-Patch gardeners and the community. This project will also improve the gravel walkway in the P-Patch. It is a partnership between a youth volunteer and a very diverse, mainly elderly group of gardeners in the Yesler neighborhood of Seattle.

Friends of Kirke Park

On September 17, 2022,3:00-7:00 pm, we will celebrate the tenth anniversary of Kirke Park, located at 7028 9th Ave NW Seattle, WA. Barbara Hainley led efforts to transform the derelict property into an award-winning park. The playground, large yard, beautiful quadrant flower gardens and adjoining P-Patch are now a favorite destination for the Whittier Heights neighborhood. We will honor Ms. Hainley via a plaque near a tree which was planted in her memory, install a new picnic table, and present a bouquet to our steadfast Seattle Parks caretaker. Games, face painting, music, hot dogs and ice cream are planned.

SouthEast Effective Development

KVRU 105.7 FM is a Southeast Seattle local community radio station founded to broadcast the diverse voices of the community. Our Pilot Mentorship Program will support Southeast Seattle youth to learn media skills and gain job readiness. After completing twelve hours of workshops over two months, they will specialize in one of three tracks: podcasting, radio broadcasting, or storytelling, and will work with a mentor to script, produce, and record content for broadcast on the station.

Friends of the Lake City Fred Meyer Garden Project

In Phase II, Friends of the Lake City Fred Meyer Garden Project will develop schematic design and construction drawings based on the conceptual design derived from the community outreach in Phase I. A lease agreement with Fred Meyer will be developed. Friends of the Lake City Fred Meyer Garden Project will also continue work on fundraising, business outreach, artist engagement, materials donation, and a robust public engagement process during Phase II.

Lake City Living Memorial Triangle

The Lake City Memorial Triangle will create a memorial with a beautification project to commemorate the fatal events of March 27, 2019. The memorial will be located at Sand Point Way NE and Bartlett Ave NE. In this phase of the project the group will plant 3 evergreens along Sand Point Way, 4 flowering trees along Bartlett, and low shrubs. The goal is to help heal the wounds of traumatized citizens, and remind visitors about the perils of gun violence. The triangle will have signage and talks to educate people about the unfortunate past event and to help create awareness and a safer community. This phase of the project will be completed by June 30, 2020.

Lake City Pioneer Days Parade Association

The Lake City Summer Parade is a free and family-friendly annual event that takes place in the Lake City neighborhood on August 2nd, 2025. The Lake City neighborhood is one of the most diverse and underserved neighborhoods in Seattle. The Parade is our community's biggest day of the year, attracting up to 10,000 neighbors. Since its founding in 1947, the parade is one of the few free inclusive opportunities for people to come together and celebrate our diverse community. The parade features marching bands, drill teams, community groups, governmental agencies, and local businesses. We feature colorful floats, live music, dance performances, and other festive displays representing the diverse cultures of the Seattle area. This project will be completed by October 31, 2025.
