Victory Heights Community Council

The project is looking to grow the beauty and identity of Victory Heights neighborhood through the beautification of signal boxes by local artists. Signal boxes are located along Northgate Way between 15th Ave NE to 19th Ave NE and several other intersections in the neighborhood. The project is anticipated to be completed in June 30, 2021

Hoi Tam Lac

Vietnamese cultural festival will be held on September 28th from 11am to 5pm at the Alki Masonic Center, located at 4736 40th Ave SW Seattle WA. The event is free and open to all. Traditional music, cultural performances, Vietnamese cultural tradition for the public to learn and taste some Vietnamese food. We will also provide space for resource information sharing.

Friends of Little Saigon

Friends of Little Saigon will create a pilot program for adults to explore Vietnamese language and culture. A series of workshops will be held at Hing Hay Coworks located at 409B Maynard Ave S. It will take place on Saturdays from 9 am - 12 pm beginning May 4, 2019 and ending July 6, 2019. The workshops will include language instruction, connecting to the local Vietnamese business community, and art.

South Park Senior Citizens

South Park seniors in collaboration with the New Holly Community will host the Moon Festival, a celebration of Vietnamese food and culture, on Sunday, September 15th from 2:00-600 pm at the New Holly Gathering Hall, 7054 32nd Ave. S in Seattle. Two hundred people are expected to attend this family friendly event which will include live music, a dragon dance, traditional dancing and singing. Traditional Vietnamese food will be served.

Vietnamese Senior Association

In an effort to share their traditional culture and build understanding and respect between Vietnamese seniors and their children, a Family Bonding Day will be held on Saturday, September 30th from 11:00 - 4:00 pm at Garfield Community Center, 2323 E Cherry Street. The event will include family story-telling, live music and karaoke, cultural dance, and foods. Two facilitated discussions are planned for October and November.

View Ridge Community Council

The View Ridge Community Council would like host a party in the park to build community around the neighborhood on Sunday September 9th, 2019 at the View Ridge Playfield, located on NE 70th Street and 45th Avenue NE. Passive and active activities will be provided so resident from various age groups can participate. The event will be free and open to the public, and food and beverages will be provided for all the attendees.

View Ridge Community Council

The View Ridge Community Council on Sunday, September 11th from 2pm-6pm will be hosting the View Ridge Party in the Park. Located at NE 70th Street and 45th Ave NE, the goal of the event is to bring the neighborhood together with a shared experience. Activities are designed to promote a sense of community and connection among the residents. Various community organizations such as Seattle Humane Society, Seattle Together and View Ridge PTA have come together for this event. The event is free and open to all public participation.

View Ridge Community Council

The View Ridge Party in the Park is the neighborhood's community building event. The goal is to bring the neighborhood together with a shared experience. The event will take place on Sunday September 8th in View Ridge Park (the center of the neighborhood). Activities are designed to promote a sense of community and connection among residents. We provide activities that appeal to everyone and also to specific age groups. Participants includes various organizations that support the neighborhood promoting positive community relations (e.g. Seattle Public Library, Seattle Fire, Seattle Police, Seattle Humane, NE Seattle Together (NEST), View Ridge School PTA, City Council Member). Food donated by local businesses is also served by neighborhood volunteers. Musical performances, arts and crafts for kids, face painting, balloon making, and historical displays of the neighborhood are examples of our use of arts and culture to connect and celebrate community.

Nordic Museum

Nordic Museum's (NM) annual Viking Days festival will celebrate its 35th anniversary on July 14-15, 2018. This will be the first Viking Days held at NM's new facility which opened on May 5, 2018. Free to the public, this beloved community festival welcomes visitors to the Museum over the 2-day weekend. Viking Days offers a rich overview of Nordic culture for new and regular visitors alike.

Department of Justice — OVW

Grants to develop and strengthen the criminal justice system's response to violence against women, including domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking.

Somali Community Services of Seattle

The Somali Community Services of Seattle will engage community including youth to plan, and develop a free and open to the public Virtual Variety Video Extravaganza. The goal is to foster development (or deepening) of relationships across cultural communities, inter-personally and inter-organizationally. The virtual video will be hosted from 8810 Renton Ave South and is expected to be completed by August 2021.

Magnolia Chamber of Commerce

The Magnolia Chamber of Commerce is leading a community-based Visible Village Vitality effort. This effort capitalizes on the momentum Magnolia has experienced, and uses the findings from two years of Department of Neighborhoods funded outreach as a foundation for action. The Visible Village Vitality effort will install street flags and banners with the new brand Discover Magnolia, host three art walks, and implement an art in empty storefronts program.

ECOSS (Environmental Coalition of South Seattle)

On August 26, 2017 starting at 6pm at 7900 10 Ave S the Environmental Coalition of South Seattle will host the cultural component to the River Festival with a exhibition called Viva Lucha Libre an event that brings awareness to Mexican culture through a masked Mexican wrestling exhibition. The exhibition will be a family-friendly cultural celebration in the South Park Neighborhood that showcases the vibrant diversity of South Park residents and businesses. There will be food and drinks and various activities for all to enjoy.

Friends of Latinx Essential Workers

Friends of Orquesta Northwest will organize a series of leadership development and cultural activities focused on Latinx culture. Mentors will be paired with community members to explore civic engagement and the arts at monthly workshops from September 2019 to May 2020 held at Casa Latina located at 317 17th Ave S. There will also be celebratory events featuring Latinx artists in November 2019, December 2019, February 2020, and May 2020 held at various Seattle locations to be determined.

Coalition of Immigrants, Refugees & Communities of Color (CIRCC)

The Coalition of Immigrants, Refugees, and Communities of Color (CIRCC), will host a free public candidate forum on October 11 from 11:30am to 2pm at Rainier Beach Community Center located at 8825 Rainier Ave S Seattle WA. Centering the voices of BIPOC residents in Districts 2 and 3—Seattle’s most diverse areas—while welcoming citywide and countywide participation, the forums will provide inclusive access to civic dialogue. The forums strengthen civic access, build neighborhood connections, and ensure historically underrepresented communities shape Seattle and King County’s political future.

Golden Gardens Volleyball Upgrade Committee

The project will fund the replacement of the volleyball court poles on Courts 5 and 6 as well as help install additional sand for safe play at Golden Gardens located at 8498 Seaview Pl NW Seattle WA. 98117. The anticipated project completion date is September 30, 2021.

Grants to state service commissions and nonprofit organizations to recruit, manage, and support volunteers, especially in underserved communities.

Volunteer Park Trust

Volunteer Park Trust in collaboration with Seattle Parks and Recreation will upgrade the performance stage in Volunteer Park with a modern Amphitheater. This phase of the project will create construction documents in accordance with the design approved by Seattle Parks and Recreation. This project will be completed by July 31, 2020.

Volunteer Park Trust

This project begins Phase III of the Volunteer Park Amphitheater Project. It will create preliminary Schematic Design for a new performance stage based on our Phase I Feasibility Study and Phase II Concept Designs. This grant will allow for uninterrupted continuation of this project.

Volunteer Park Trust

The Volunteer Park Trust will produce a free, 7-event, outdoor public performance series in Volunteer Park located at 1247 15th Ave E. Coordinated by a diverse community Task Force, the outdoor series will kick off with a Grand Opening May 21, 2022 and continue Thursday evenings July 14 to Aug 18, 2022. The performance series will feature multicultural music, dance, and theater. We are completing a new Amphitheater in Volunteer Park, and the purpose of this series is to showcase the new facility and promote Volunteer Park as a city-wide destination for all. DON has supported our Amphitheater Project through all phases of planning, design, and construction. This project will be completed by October 31, 2022.

Volunteer Park Trust

Volunteer Park Trust will produce its third, free, 6-event, outdoor public performance series in Volunteer Park on Thursday evenings in July and August 2024. The series will feature multicultural music and dance, and will promote Volunteer Park as a city-wide destination for all.

Magnolia Chamber of Commerce

Phases II/III will build on the benefits of Phase I by adding chairs, tables, benches and bike racks to the 3300 and 3400 blocks of W. McGraw St. Phase I (3200 block) provided safe and welcoming outdoor gathering places for individuals and families and increased foot traffic for dining, shopping and services, which was vital to the survival of local businesses during the pandemic. 50% of businesses in the Phases II/III are owned by people of color who strongly support these streetscape improvements to attract more customers and help them build their businesses. The expected project completion out date is October 29, 2021.
