Wasat Community

On the September 25th, Dawud Walid, an African American Muslim scholar, will guide South Seattle's Muslim community in discussion and dialogue on social justice and activism with the cultural perspective of Muslims. The event will be held at Rainier Arts Center, located at 3515 S Alaska St at 7pm. Wasat will follow up the next day by implementing a service project for community youth to distribute nourishing free meals made from surplus produce to those facing food insecurity.

Town Hall Seattle

Town Hall Seattle will organize Community-Created Events in four Seattle neighborhoods to take place during the first half of 2018. Diverse Neighborhood Steering Committees will be convened to identify issues and topics of special interest to their communities. The committees will collaborate as co-creators with an Artist- or Scholar-in-Community to develop and produce three to five inclusive, culturally diverse arts and civics events for, about, and hosted at venues in, their neighborhood. The events will culminate in the four committees coming together to examine how their work strengthened bonds within their neighborhood, and amplified a neighborhood voice for greater Seattle. Town Hall's Inside/Out project takes an asset-based approach to community building.

Toys Not Included

Toys Not Included is a group of Seattle Artists who work to promote LGBTQA, BIPOC and Under-Privileged Youth Artists and work to remove barriers like submission fees, commissions, and “pay to play” models. Located at 2301 1st Ave Toys Not Included will be hosting year-round work that culminates with our annual street art show in July that features 100+ artists and thousands of attendees. There will be monthly Street Art Activity Centers that bring free, hands-on workshops to neighborhoods citywide. Community members will be able to create alongside professional street artists, contributing to community-created installations featured in the annual show. By combining education, youth leadership, and commission-free programming, it will shift street art from stigma to celebration, build equity, creativity, and cultural pride across Seattle. The project is free and open to the public. The project will be completed in the Summer of 2026.

Meridian Coalition

The Meridian Coalition will hire a consultant to conduct a traffic study of the area between Wallingford Ave N and I-5 and between N 85th St and N 92nd St. The goal is to calm traffic and improve pedestrian safety. Two community meetings and street walks will be held. The study and design will be completed by early 2019.

Friends of 42nd Ave S

The Friends of 42nd Avenue South will work with SDOT and a landscape architect to gather speed and volume data and design pedestrian safety and traffic calming improvements along 4400-4600 blocks and 5000-5200 blocks of 42nd Ave S. Community meetings and site walks will also be held. The project will be completed by March 2018.

Slow Your Roll 31st Ave NW

Conduct a traffic study on 31st Ave NW measuring traffic volume and speed. This information will be used to determine if further traffic calming measures are necessary.

Madison Valley Parents & Neighbors for Calmer Streets

Madison Valley Parents & Neighbors for Calmer Streets will install a traffic circle at the intersection of 26th Ave E & E Mercer streets. SDOT will construct the traffic circle, and community volunteers will landscape the circle. A community celebration of the newly built and landscaped traffic circle will be held in August 2018.

28th Ave E Neighbors

The 28th Ave E Neighbors community group will narrow the roadway along the 500-700 blocks of 28th Ave E to slow vehicle traffic and increase pedestrian safety. SDOT will install wheel stops, and the 28th Ave E Neighbors will install topsoil, gravel, and plants as landscaping in the right-of-way adjacent to the roadway. Work will be completed by May 2019. A community celebration along the blocks will be held in May 2019.

Gender Justice League

Gender Justice League (GJL) will host Trans Pride 2025, which will take place on June 27, 2025 in Volunteer Park. Trans Pride is an annual festival celebrating Trans life and community across the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Produced by GJL staff in collaboration with hundreds of local organizers, volunteers, and groups who support our vibrant local TwoSpirit, Trans, and Gender Diverse (2STGD) communities, Trans Pride increases visibility, connection, love, and celebration of Trans lives. The event is free and open to the public and includes a stage show from 6 - 9:30 pm featuring an all-Trans lineup of talent that will also be livestreamed. The event also includes a tabling fair featuring more than 100 Trans-led organizations, community groups, artists, small businesses, and services. Typically 30,000 or more Trans people and allies gathered to celebrate, resist, laugh, and be together in community over the course of the day. This project will be completed by 8/31/25.

Grants to owners and operators of transit systems to protect critical surface transportation infrastructure and the traveling public.

Administration for Community Living

Grants to states to improve access to health and other services for individuals with traumatic brain injury and their families.

Friends and Neighbors of Mt Zion Baptist Church

The Friends and neighbors of Mt Zion are coming together to increase tree coverage in their neighborhood. On May 17, 2025, the new plantings will take place 20th Avenue between E Olive Street and E Pine Street. The plantings will include, 6 new Cherry Akebono trees, 4 new Carpinus japonica.  Bushes and ground cover will also be planted to retain humidity and create natural separation through planters between tree area and transit area to avoid damage by vehicles driving over the curb, or people/dogs walking over plants. The project is free and open to the public.

Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention

Grants to federally recognized tribes for juvenile justice, delinquency prevention, and mental health programs for tribal youth.

Friends of the Troll's Knoll

The Friends of the Troll's Knoll is a community group dedicated to promoting and strengthening the safety and security of the community by maintaining and activating the green space right-of-way on the east side of the Fremont Troll, located at N 36th St and Winslow Pl N Seattle WA 98103 and turning it into a public park. The group will hire a designer to create a design plan for the space and hire an artist to create and install artwork. The anticipated end date for the project is August 31, 2020.

Friends of the Troll's Knoll

The Friends of the Troll's Knoll (FOTK) is a neighborhood group dedicated to engaging the community in beautifying and activating the urban forest around the Fremont Troll. This grant will fund: (1) site survey of the land, (2) arborist analysis, (3) detailed planting plan, (4) installation of a willow art feature, (5) addition of a Japanese style shade structure, known as a hokora, and to the existing moss turtle artwork (installed by us in 2020). The anticipated project close out is May 31, 2022

Friends of Troll's Knoll

The funding will cover benches, decommissioning of the damaged Mushroom Lantern sculptures (funded by DON in 2021), replacement art with stainless steel sculptures, and erosion control. Currently, we do not have seating for mobility impaired visitors and would like to purchase and install sturdy horizontal basalt column benches. Our site is open 24/7 and free and open to the public. The anticipated project completion date is December 31, 2026.

South Lake Union Chamber of Commerce

Friends of Denny Park, in collaboration with the South Lake Union Chamber of Commerce will plant approximately 8,250 tulip & daffodil bulbs in Denny Park at 100 Dexter Avenue North on Saturday, September 29th at 1:00 p.m. These bulbs will bloom in the spring of 2019 bringing much needed color and vibrancy to Seattle's most historic park. The flowers will be planted primarily at entrance points, along paved pathways and in planters around the center gathering plaza. This project will be completed by October 31, 2018.

Two Cranes Institute

Two Cranes Institute (TCI) purchased their building located at 8512 20th Ave NE in 2016 to secure a home and explore partnerships that could support a community gathering space. TCI's Streetscape Improvements project will remove tree stumps from the crumbling sidewalk which has become hazardous and falls short of ADA requirements. After replacing the sidewalk, TCI will install landscaping, a patio reconnecting community pathways and create welcoming areas for people to gather. This project will be completed by June 30, 2023.

U District Advocates

The U District Advocates will coordinate a series of community meetings that will include key stakeholders from the community, city, university, and transportation agencies over the next 6-8 months as partners to design a Mobility Vision Plan that will include a comprehensive, equitable, and efficient approach to mobility in the U District community.

U District Advocates

During this summer (June-October), we will build out our proposed Green Street as a prototype to test public responses to the improvement strategies from the completed conceptual plan to make NE 42nd Street safer and more pedestrian-friendly. This 'tactical urbanism' project will set the stage with outdoor seating, temporary trees in planters, traffic calming, play structures, and pavement painting, phased in over a series of weeks.

The U District Partnership

The U District Mural Program is an initiative to build vibrancy in Seattle's University District by adding new works of public art. Murals will be installed in the following locations: 1313 NE 42nd Street, 1319 NE 43rd Street, and 4261 Roosevelt Way NE. This project will be completed by August 31, 2021.

U District Advocates

The U-District Advocates group will initiate a community led conceptual to 10% design plan of two blocks NE 42nd St as walkable core of the neighborhood, and to implement strategies on the designated `Green Street` This project is a partnership and takes place in the University District in the 1400 NE 42nd St area. The project is free and open to the public, and will be completed in the Spring of 2023.

University Heights Center

University Heights Center (UHeights) located at 5031 University Ave NE. Has started construction on an elevator shaft to link all 4 floors of our 55,000 square foot building. This project supports projects associated with their Elevator Installation. In turn giving the community unbarred entry to all classroom and event spaces. The project is free and open to the public. The project is expected to be completed in early Spring of 2022.

University District Food Bank

The University District Food Bank will install an anaerobic digester at the food bank (5017 Roosevelt Way NE) by May 2019 to lessen food waste and provide free compost to neighborhood P-Patch gardens. A public meeting will be held to collect input on how to best use the digester as an educational tool for the community. Community members will also participate in building the anaerobic digester by May/June 2019. Free monthly community workshops about anaerobic digestion, public health, and renewable energy will be offered on an ongoing basis.
