Madison Valley Emergency Communications Hub

To create resiliency in our community, we will teach emergency preparedness and disaster skills. We will host two public events at the MLK Fame Community Center to help prepare the Madison Valley residents for a disaster. On April 2 we will hold a skills fair which is an event with multiple stations where people can learn how to prepare themselves for a disaster with loss of power, water, and cell coverage for a few days to two weeks. This will include managing gas leaks and downed power lines, caring for loved ones and pets, planning for food, water, and sanitation, sheltering in place if one's home is damaged, and communicating with neighbors and city officials. On May 21 we will hold a grand opening of the hub site where we will demonstrate the use of the hub site as a gathering place for the Madison Valley neighborhood in the event of disaster and encourage Individual households to prepare disaster supplies and communication plans.

Madrona PTSA

Madrona PTSA will renovate the aging playground at Madrona K-8 School located at 1121 33rd Ave, creating an engaging play space that will allow the grounds to be open to the public outside of school hours. The project will redesign landscaping, improve transitions, and replace the play structure.

Madrona PK-8, a Title I school in central Seattle, will replace its aging playground with an engaging play structure that will allow the grounds to be open to the public outside of school hours. The redesign will improve transitions, redo the landscaping, and accommodate the growing school. This grant will pay for design and construction documents.

Hollow Earth Radio

Hollow Earth Radio will host a music performance called Magma Fest 2021 at Cal Anderson Park, 1635 11th Avenue, on August 28th from 2-7 p.m. This event will bring awareness to local musician and DJ acts, as well as raise awareness about our station, an independent, low-powered FM radio station located in the heart of the Central District. This event will give the community a chance to come together to celebrate the end of the summer. This project will be completed by October 29, 2021.

Magnolia Chamber of Commerce

The goals of Phases IV and V are to create a Parklet on 33rd Ave W in the heart of the business district (with tables, chairs, benches and bike racks), and install benches/bike racks on 33rd and 32nd W. There are no parks with seating areas near Magnolia's downtown. In 2017/2018, volunteers installed `one-day demonstration Parklets` that were met with great enthusiasm by community members and businesses, who support creating a permanent Parklet. (Photos included). Phases IV/V will strengthen and expand community partnerships we have developed, with Magnolia businesses, City Departments such as SDOT, community volunteers and our broad base of donors.

Magnolia Historical Society

The Magnolia Historical Essay Project III is the third volume in a continuing tradition of Magnolia neighborhood histories following two award nominated and winning volumes. More than 40 residents will volunteer their efforts to create a beautiful book that will be a keepsake and an accurate historical record for future generations. This essay will serve as a permanent record of Magnolia history in the midcentury era, '50's and '60's, extending the record provided by previous volumes and the scope of history already collected. This project will be completed by October 31, 2019.

Magnolia Neighborhood Skate Park

Please note: This application is to fund the initial activities for the skate park; Concept Design and Project Start-up Only. It is anticipated that to complete the entire skate park will be a multi-year project. Background: In 2007, the Seattle Citywide Skatepark Plan designated Magnolia Playfield as a potential site for a Skate Dot, with a recommended size of up to 1500 sq ft. Project Description: This initial study will accomplish a series of concept renderings to provide a starting point for determining the skate park location and design. We will also establish an internet presence with website and social media sites. In addition this initial phase will also be used to recruit and increase membership in the committee leadership team and overall support network.

Magnolia Neighborhood Skate Park

The Magnolia Neighborhood Skatepark is a multi-year project, which began in 2023, to Design and Build a small Skatepark (~1500 sq ft) in Magnolia Playfield. There are three distinct phases: Concept Phase – Completed with Small Sparks grant; Design Phase; and Construction Phase. This funding would pay for the Design Phase of the skatepark. The anticipated project completion date is December 31, 2026.

Magnuson Children's Garden Steering Committee

The Magnuson Children's Garden Steering Committee will work with Magnuson Park youth residents and local youth groups to design and create murals that convey a strong 'All are Welcome in the Garden' message. The murals will be on the existing kiosk of Magnuson Children's garden located at 6344 NE 74th St. Murals are expected to be completed by December 2021 with a virtual mural dedication celebration for the whole community.

Magnuson P-Patch

This project will address three accessibility issues in the Magnuson P-Patch located at 7400 Sand Point Way NE: (1) eliminating annual flooding on a portion of the accessible paths through the p-patch. This flooding precludes those with any type of walking assist from using that portion of the path during half the year; (2) a pilot program to access a retaining wall design along 100' of the same path. The goal here is to prevent plots and weeds from encroaching onto the path; (3) repair rotting boards on the raised beds and/or replace the beds with galvanized tanks in the section of the p-patch that's designated for gardeners with mobility issues. An additional goal of the project is to strengthen the relationship between the P-Patch and the residents of Magnuson Housing. This project will be completed by December 31, 2021.

Magnuson P-Patch

The Magnuson P-Patch community group will repair and upgrade infrastructure at the Magnuson P-Patch in Magnuson Park at Sand Point. They will repair the tool shed, replace tools, install hose hangers, repair tool storage boxes, and replace raised beds in Food Bank gardens. Construction and repairs will be done in March-May of 2018, with a community celebration in June.

Friends of Magnuson Park

The project proposes to exhibit the historic uses of the Magnuson Community Center from the Naval Station Puget Sound era. There are many incredible stories associated with the Community Center building, a history that everyone who continues to use the building can connect with. We seek to tell those stories with an emphasis on the people of color who trained, performed, and played here when it was the Naval Air Station Seattle Recreation Center. The center is currently undergoing renovations and will soon open a new chapter in its 80 plus year history. There is no better time to tell these stories and preserve part of the building and the black community's legacy. The anticipated project completion date is May 31, 2023.

Bike Works

Bike Works will hold an event on Sunday, 11/5/23 to honor Marshall `Major` Taylor's birthday. Taylor is a hero to people interested in the intersections of cycling and social justice. The event will also include `Gold Sprint` ,an indoor cycling event. After the Sprints, we will watch a film about Taylor with food and beverages.

Rainier Avenue Radio

Rainier Avenue Radio will host a free event to celebrate music and to promote the activation of public spaces. Make Music Day will be held on June 21, 2019 from 11am - 8pm at Westlake Park located at 401 Pine St. The event will feature performance art and interactive musical activities for all ages and levels of musical ability.

Refugee Artisan Initiative

We are hosting a series of Grand Opening events to officially open RAI's new Makerspace + Cultural Center located at 12337 Lake City Way NE on June 16, 2022. Specifically, the Grand Opening Community Open House will be an opportunity for our Lake City neighbors to meet our refugee and immigrant artisans, our volunteers, and staff so we can truly be an anchor for the increasingly diverse community in North Seattle. Our full day starts with a 2:00pm Ribbon Cutting with our supporters, including Mayor Bruce Harrell, Councilwoman Debora Juarez, and King County Councilmember Rod Dembowski, followed by the 3:00pm Open House where we welcome our supporters to stay to meet the community. This project will be completed by September 30,2022.

Friends of Maple Leaf P-Patch Community Garden

The Maple Leaf P-Patch located at 529 NE 103rd St Seattle WA 98125 has seven fruit trees, including two Asian pears, two European pears, one apple tree, and two fig trees. Unfortunately, these tree varieties are not suited to our climate and have developed diseases and produce inedible fruit. There are also two diseased black walnut trees at the site. The plan is to remove these trees and plant more climate and site-appropriate varieties sometime in the March to April timeframe.

Friends of Maple Leaf Reservoir Park

Friends of Maple Leaf Reservoir Park intend to 1) hire a restoration company to remove invasive and exotic species in the eastern 11,000 sf of zone 2 of the approved Habitat Enhancement plan. 2) Increase density of native meadow wildflowers in the tall grass meadows of the upper park.

Friends of Maple Leaf Reservoir Park

The Friends of Maple Leaf Reservoir Park will increase the park's biodiversity to make it more welcoming home for native plants and animals and to provide more enjoyment and beautiful recreation space for the community. Invasive weeds will be removed, expand the tall grass meadow prairie plantings, and plant shrubs and forbs in two rain gardens. The drainage will be improved so walkways not be flooded, and benches and picnic tables will be added to improve access, especially for users from nearby retirement community. The project will be completed in the Spring of 2022

Maple Leaf Community Council

The Maple Leaf Summer Social 2023 is a free and public party in Maple Leaf Reservoir Park featuring food (including LOTS of free ice cream), games, music, art, and most importantly, the opportunity for participants to make vital post-pandemic connections with old and new neighbors.

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Grants for prevention, removal, and research of marine debris, including community-based cleanups, derelict fishing gear removal, and debris monitoring.

Downtown Seattle Association

The Downtown Seattle Association will install wayfinding blade signs, historic markers, and sidewalk design features along the pedestrian corridor from the Pike Place Market to the Museum of History and Industry (primarily Bell St, Denny Way, and Westlake Ave). Input on corridor branding elements will be gathered at community events, including the September 30 Wooden Boat Festival in South Lake Union Park. Elements will be installed by September 2019, and a community celebration will be held.

RV Steering Committee

Over a six month period the Rainier Vista Steering Committee (RVSC) will facilitate 12 virtual workshops on subsequent Saturdays for youth ages 11-17. The project will begin January of 2021 and will run through June. Participants will share stories about their life experiences since Covid-19 using art, literature photography and spoken word. A booklet of reflections will be produced and shared with the community.

Friends of Maple Elementary School

Friends of Maple Elementary School will hire a landscape architect/master plan designer and conduct extensive outreach to receive input on proposed improvements to the school grounds. Goals are to improve access routes to the school (4925 Corson Ave S) and to increase the outdoor usability of the school site for students, neighbors, and community groups. A master plan will be completed by March 2019, and construction documents for the first phase of improvements will be prepared by May 2019.

Maynard Alley Partnership (MAP)

The Maynard Alley Partnership, a group of community stakeholders and leaders, and the SCIDpda are partnering with Dr. Jeff Hou's UW Landscape Architecture studio class to study concepts to improve Maynard Alley. This project aligns with the community's work over recent years to revitalize its alleys. Once implemented, the changes will make Maynard Alley safer and more usable for pedestrians and community members. This project will be completed by September 30, 2019.
