Community Dance Program

The Community Dance group will be hosting various " Fair Days" at the Centilia Cultural Center located at El Centro de la Raza 2524 16th Ave South. The Fair days will happen August 9 and September 13. The purpose of this project is to celebrate the rich diversity of the Beacon Hill neighborhood by highlighting various cultural activities and dance that reflect ethnic groups such as Latino, Asian, East African etc. The event is free and open to the public.

Beyers' Bulldog Garden P-Patch

The Beyers’ Bulldog Garden, located at 4807 54th Avenue SW, was established in 2025, when the Beyers donated a lot to GROW for use as community garden. Although the garden has some garden infrastructure, additional work is required to create a more accessible and secure P-Patch for community use. With this grant we will construct a main garden path compliant with American with Disabilities Act (ADA) specifications to replace the temporary cedar-chip-path that volunteers installed this spring. To guide path design, we will engage a Landscape Architect to create a conceptual garden layout that connects the path to our new accessible beds. We will also replace dilapidated fencing and gates to improve access to our garden for all, and protect crops from urban pests. This project will allow people with a wide range of physical abilities to participate in gardening activities, as well as provide a welcoming venue for all visitors. This project will be completed by 6/30/26.

Sail Sand Point

Sail Sand Point provides numerous services to people with disabilities each year in partnership with Outdoors for All, Children's Hospital and Wounded Warriors. This year we will host a large kickoff day in May to invite interested participants to our site to learn about our program options, explore our boats and gear, meet the volunteers and staff running programs, and understand how they might participate. This project will be completed by July 2025.

Lavender Rights Project

Lavender Rights Project will organize a public forum to identify issues impacting the LGBTQ community and to share resources to address those issues. The forum will be held on October 6, 2018 from 12pm - 2 pm. The outcomes of the forum will be used to inform a board development event to identify priorities for future action. The board development event will be held at a date TBD in November 2018. Both events will be held at 2425 6th Ave S.

Admiral Neighborhood Association

The Admiral Neighborhood Association will produce a day long block party event in the central business core of the Admiral District that will be free and accessible to everyone. It will be centered on promoting local nonprofits, small businesses, vendors and local musical artists. The event will be held between 10am and 9pm on Saturday August 23rd on the 2300 Block of California Ave SW between SW Admiral Way and College St. Restaurants will have the opportunity to extend service in front of the main stage and the block will be lined with booths featuring local businesses, vendors, and non-profits. This project will be completed by September 30, 2025.

Admiral Neighborhood Association

We intend to promote and produce a day long block party event in the central business core of the Admiral. neighborhood that will be open and free to everyone. It will involve local nonprofits, local businesses, local musical artists and will take place between 10am and 9pm Saturday August6 26th along California Ave SW between SW Admiral Way and SW College St. Local businesses and nonprofits will have booths and there will be a main stage featuring local musical artists.

Admiral Neighborhood Association

We intend to promote and produce a series of 3 weekly concerts at 3 different Admiral neighborhood parks which will be open and free for everyone. The concerts will be held on Thursday evenings July 18th, 25th, and August 1st from about 6:30pm - 8:30 pm and will feature a different musical artist or band for each evening.

MAPS-Seattle

This project will provide 5 workshops for Afghan refugee women living in and near George Fleming Place Apartments: Child Nutrition, Child Dental Health, Preventive/Routine Care, Women?s Reproductive Health, and Success in Schools. This will enlist experts from Odessa Brown Children?s Clinic, ICHS, and Seattle Public Schools to introduce them to health and school resources in the Othello Station neighborhood; encourage healthy diets and oral hygiene; and explain school-related rules, opportunities, and tips for student success. This will help foster self-reliance, familiarity with neighborhood resources, and improve health, dental, and educational outcomes for Afghan families. The workshops will be held every day from December 5th to December 9th from 3:30Pm to 5:00PM.

Grants to museums, libraries, and cultural organizations to build capacity for preserving and sharing African American history and culture.

Friends of African Unity Census Kickoffs

African Unity Census Kickoffs are two events hosted by the African Leadership Coalition and One Vibe Africa. The events are to ensure Africans in the diaspora that live in Seattle are encouraged to participate in the census, to raise census awareness, and to introduce African Unity branding to the African community. The events are planned in the Winter and Spring of 2020 at Cafe Avole located at 6630 Rainier Ave S Seattle WA 98118.

African Village Experience Leadership Team

The African Village Experience is a week long immersion into the African Diaspora where participants will engage in traditional African dancing, arts and crafts, language learning, African fashion, griot circle of elders, instrument making and food tasting from the African Diaspora. The African Village Experience will run July 22, 2019-July 26, 2019, Monday through Friday from 5pm til 8pm at Pratt Park 1800 S Main Street.

BEGO, Inc.

On Sunday, August 22nd, 2021 from Noon through 10pm. BEGO a Ethiopian community organization will be hosting the Ethiopian Music Festival at the Amphitheater in Seward Park. The event will showcase Ethiopian heritage through LIVE Ethiopian music, dance performances, pastry-cooking, coffee ceremony presentations, art, and deliciously prepared foods. The event is free and open to the public.

West Seattle Junction Association

On December 9th 2023 from 4-9pm at Junction Plaza park in West Seattle we are having a free community holiday festival allowing everyone to submit their artificial intelligence generated art to be projected onto a 7 story building which will be shown for one week after the festival.

Alki Community Council

Alki Community Celebration event on Thursday, June 20th from 5-8 PM at Alki Playfield. Open to all members of the community to celebrate and foster a sense a neighborly connection amongst Alki. We'll be using funds to pay for promotional materials (yard signs, fliers), event activation (renting a stage and sound equipment, local musicians), permits and fees (special events permits).

Alki Community Council

Alki Holiday Lights is a community-driven, family-friendly gathering that brings neighbors and visitors together with festive lights, seasonal treats, and holiday cheer. This free, inclusive two-hour event precedes the Argosy Christmas Ship’s annual Alki stop, creating a full evening of celebration on December 18, 2025, at Alki Bath House located at 2701 Alki Ave SW, Seattle, WA.

Meany Center for the Performing Arts

At this time when social issues like inequality divide us, five Seattle community-based artists and acclaimed artist Daniel Alexander Jones invites our community to a free public art event to meditate on wholeness with a ritual performance, dance and music celebration. The public is invited to a community processional performance, to activate new temporary altar art pieces in Public Spaces, discover movement meditations+ cultural tradition. The celebration kicks off the start of an art exhibit at The Henry Museum. The event is set during the U. District fair, to draw broad community participation, open to everyone. This art activation event features Timothy White Eagle, Valerie Curtis-Newton, Leon Finley, Afroditi Psarra, Althea Rao, who explore forces that shape our reality, linking waves of history, and the public meeting places which have served as contemplative sites in world cultures. Participants are invited to fill out a MEMORY card for an ongoing art installation.

Grants for supportive services, respite care, and evidence-based interventions for persons with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias and their caregivers.

Cal Anderson Park Alliance

Cal Anderson Park Alliance (CAPA) manages the Cathy Hillenbrand Community Room, per agreement with Community Roots Housing, which owns the building located at 131 10th Ave E Seattle WA. We make the space available for free for most community uses (charging a nominal fee only for events that charge participants). The room is a wonderful community asset, but it lacks amenities that some users need, such as AV equipment, reliable wifi, etc. This grant will help us purchase quality equipment and other meeting supply necessities so we can continue to make the space available at no charge for most users. The anticipated project completion date is March 31, 2026.

Grants to organizations to engage AmeriCorps members in evidence-based or evidence-informed interventions addressing community needs in education, health, environment, economic opportunity, and disaster services.

Sisters of South Seattle

Sister of South Seattle Community Advocacy group would like to host a series of three workshops at the Hillman City Collaboratory starting September 18, 2019. The main goal of the workshops is to open the space for the community to talk about racism, gentrification, and spirituality through an African-American lens. During the workshops people will have the opportunity to share poetry/film, and discussion, led by renowned Black poet Amir Sulaiman. Food and drinks will be provided to all. The series of workshops are free and open to the public.

Downtown Community Council

Jane’s Walk is an annual global festival of free, community-led walking conversations inspired by Jane Jacobs. Jane’s Walks encourage people to share stories, discover unseen aspects of their community, and use walking as a way to connect with their neighbors and neighborhood. Seattle does not currently have a Jane’s Walk. The Downtown Community Council will create a Jane’s Walk to help redefine our neighborhood from one of the most distressed neighborhoods to a welcoming and safe home in the public imagination. The walk will feature mobile phone based augmented reality creations providing new tools for Seattleites to voice their ideas on the direction of our city. This project will include community education programming leading up to the public launch during the Jane’s Walk festival on May 3 and 4, 2025. This project will be completed by June 30, 2025.

Angel Morgan P-Patch

The Angel Morgan P-Patch will repair garden infrastructure at the Angel Morgan P-Patch located at 3956 S. Morgan St. The group will also host events, educational workshops, and conduct outreach to raise awareness of the garden as a public resource. The repairs and community activities will take place between fall 2019 and summer 2020.

Alki Beach Pride

Alki Beach Pride will host the Annual Alki Beach Pride event on Saturday, August 16, 2025 from 12:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Alki Beach Park located at 2701 Alki Avenue. This event is a free family-friendly community-driven LGBTQ+ celebration in its 11th year. This event was created by two queer Black women based on the need for more BIPOC representation and soulful vibes at our local Pride events. This project will be completed by September 30, 2025.
