Interim Community Development Association

This project will improve physical and public safety in the Danny Woo International District Community Garden (DWG) located at 620 S Main St through implementing priority items in the Danny Woo Garden Safety Improvement Plan. Specific elements include new lighting, new metal railings, replacing rotted wood handrails, and rebuilding the pig roast area. The DWG is the largest and most beloved open space in the Chinatown International District, the neighborhood with the lowest amount of open green space per person in Seattle and that bears the brunt of environmental and health disparities. Aging garden infrastructure increases the risks of falls and injuries for frail elder gardeners, and increased vandalism and crime threatens their peace of mind. The DWG contributes to the overall health and wellbeing of the CID's elder gardeners and provides a beautiful green multipurpose gathering space for the entire community. The project will be completed in the Summer of 2026.

Friends of OCA- Greater Seattle

The Friends of OCA-Greater Seattle will engage local artists, partner organizations, and community members in creating an hour-long docu-fiction film set in the World War II era that will highlight the contributions and sacrifices made by Chinese American military veterans. Filming will begin in January 2020 in Chinatown-International District.

Seattle MLK Jr. Organizing Coalition

The Seattle MLK Jr. Organizing Coalition will honor Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., with several Increase Access program events throughout the weekend. The first event is a Youth and Family focused kick-off celebration at Langston Hughes Center (104 17th Ave) on Sunday, January 19th from noon until 5:00 pm. Monday January 20th begins with a Career and Opportunity Fair at Garfield High School (400 23rd Ave) starting at 8:30 am. Workshops will be held throughout Monday, along with speakers and entertainment. The annual march begins at 12:30 pm. and concludes with a community meal back at Garfield High School. All events are free and open to the public.

Innovia Foundation

Innovia Foundation ($200M in assets) supports nonprofits in WA through grants focused on education, community development, health, arts. Awards range from $1,000 to $50,000.

Interbay P-Patch Community Gardeners

Over the next six months the Interbay neighborhood will organize and facilitate the replacement of the tool/kitchen shed roof at the Interbay P-Patch. The project includes a site clean up, scheduled work parties and a celebration.

Studio Lazo

The Third Annual International Childrens Day celebration will be April 15, 2018 from 10am to 1pm at Casa Latina located at 1614 S Jackson St. This free community celebration will feature 10 different art workshops taught by professional artists, predominantly in Spanish. The workshops will feature creating poems, traditional mask making and Oaxacan dance, along with making prints, and storytelling.

Turkish American Cultural Association of Washington

The International Children's Friendship Festival (ICFF-https://childrensfest.tacawa.org/) fosters cultural understanding and empowers Seattle youth. Inspired by International Children's Day, ICFF celebrates diverse young voices through a vibrant 2-day festival and year-round arts programs. Youth collaborate in art, public speaking, and civic advocacy, attracting thousands and gaining recognition from the City of Seattle. Celebrating its 15th anniversary in 2024, ICFF builds a more inclusive future through youth arts.

International Women’sDay - 2017

This event on March 11, 2017 from 9 am to 4 pm at The Brockey Center at South Seattle Community College will be held in celebration of International Women's Day. Through story-telling, facilitated conversations, collaborative art and dance, participants will know they are part of a caring and vibrant community of women. It is free and open to the public.

Somali Family Safety Task Force

On March 8, 2023 the Somali Family Task Force will be hosting the International Women's Day Celebration at New Holly Gathering Hall located at 7054 32nd Ave S from 4pm to 8pm. The event is a day to value women's achievements, raise awareness of their contributions to society, and a opportunity for immigrant women to come together for friendship, cross-cultural conversations, music, art, food and dance. The event is free and open to public.

Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention

Grants to state and local law enforcement agencies for proactive investigation of internet crimes against children and community education.

Thornton Creek Alliance

Thornton Creek is the largest Watershed in Seattle. It is located in the Northeastern part of the city. There are many natural areas including parks that the creek runs through. Currently in most locations there is very little or no information about the creek. Working with Parks, SPU, and the community, we will manufacture and install signs that describe the area, talk about any history including any Indigenous information, provide map or trail information, provide space for environmental information. This project will be completed by November 30, 2022.

Thornton Creek Alliance

Under a previous neighborhood matching grant we installed 4 interpretive signs. For this project we are designing, manufacturing, installing and maintaining 4 additional interpretive signs which denote and describe the Natural Areas in the Thornton Creek Watershed. The new signs will be in the following locations: Beaver Pond NA near 10501 8th Ave NE Beaver Pond NA near 10526 9th Ave NE 110 St Swale near near 3024 NE 110th St Willow Creek NA near 10027 Ravenna Ave NE This project will be completed by March 31, 2026.

Festa Italiana

The 32nd Annual Italian Festival will be held on September 28-29th from 10AM- 8PM at Seattle Center, 305 Harrison St. This community festival is designed to celebrate the arts and culture of Italy and those Americans of Italian descent. The celebration will features exhibits, music, dance, food and activities for the entire family.

Jackson Place

Jackson Place will work with community members to identify a location for Emergency Hub Box located near Charles St and Hiawatha Place area to serve the Jackson Place Community. They will also work to purchase initial supplies for the emergency hub box, and host a community workshop to inform neighbors the purpose and the location of the hub box in June 2020.

Friends of I5/King Street

The Friends of I-5 Steering Committee will help facilitate the design and installation of a mural along the north of Jackson Street wall underneath the I-5 freeway located at S. Jackson and 9th Ave S. In addition, the Jackson Street columns will be repainted due to graffiti and have been fading over time. The project is free and open to community participation. The Project will be completed by the Fall of 2022

Friends of Jane Addams Middle School

Friends of Jane Addams Middle School (JAMS) will prepare conceptual design and construction drawings for exterior portions of the Jane Addams Middle School grounds by March 2018. Friends of JAMS will hire a landscape architect and conduct extensive outreach, including three community meetings, to receive input on proposed improvements to the site. The ultimate goals are to improve in an environmentally sensitive way access routes to JAMS and to increase the outdoor usability and safety of the school site for JAMS students, neighbors, and community groups who frequent and use the school grounds.

Japantown Neighbors

The Japantown Neighbors have initiated the Japantown Identity project to recognize the legacy of 8,000 Japanese immigrants and descendants who created a vibrant community known as Japantown before WWII.The project is located at 604 S Jackson St sought funding to establish Japantown as an important cultural destination. The project is free and open to the public, and will be completed in late Summer of 2022.

Friends of the Jackson Building

This project seeks funding to reimagine new murals for the corner of 6th and Jackson on the Jackson Building. This corner is one of the main gateways into the CID and the main entry point to Japantown. Current protective boards have been up since 2020 and are deteriorating. The Japantown community would like to see this corner with a new mural celebrating its resilience to survive the pandemic shutdowns and commemorate the neighborhood as an important cultural asset to the City. The Wing Luke Museum just experienced 9 windows on their building smashed and vandalized. Our community has been traumatized enduring incessant crime, vandalism and now this vicious attack on a beloved community institution. Funding will fund the new artwork printed on graffiti protected vinyl. It will help to reactivate this corner and to help support the goals of promoting the economic health of our neighborhood.

Japantown Planning Group

The Japantown Planning Group (with fiscal sponsor Wing Luke Museum) requests funding for our Sakura Cherry Blossom Festival, in Seattle's Japantown, with weeklong activities April 7-12 culminating with main events on Saturday, April 13. Business owners and community members in Japantown have worked together over several years to activate Japantown businesses, streets, and parks and encourage more economic and pedestrian activity to help our recovery. Last year, we held the first Sakura Festival with an invitation to spend time in the neighborhood and enjoy music performances, art installations, food and business specials, walking tours, giveaways, a photo contest, and picnics in Kobe Terrace Park during cherry blossom time. Venues such as the Danny Woo and Chiyo?s Garden, Nihonmachi Alley, KOBO at Higo, Sairen, Panama Tea House, Wing Luke Museum, and more helped attract a diverse crowd in a successful event. We hope to build on that success as we welcome in Springtime together!

Jefferson

Jefferson Who Am I? is a theatrical performance based on the relationship between Thomas Jefferson our 5th president and his slave mistress Sally Hemings. The work will be presented on September 29th and 30th of 2018 at the Langston Hughes Center using several artistic disciplines including poetry, art, music and dance and performers of all ages. The project will stimulate healthy conversation on race and equity in American today, through facilitated discussions with the cast. All performances/events will be free and open to the public.

Friends of Jimi Hendrix Park Committee

A day long celebration on Saturday, August 27th will showcase the grand opening of Jimi Hendrix Park, located at 2400 S. Massachusetts Street. This free public event will include speakers, a musical concert, food trucks and activities for children.

John Hay Foundation

The John Hay Foundation will hire design professionals to create surveys, geotechnical reports, permit applications, 100% construction documents, and construction cost estimates for the playground area of John Hay Elementary School located at 201 Garfield St. The work will take place between September 2017 and March 2018. This scope of work will be based on an existing conceptual plan that was created with significant community input.

The John Hay Foundation will hire a professional contractor to install a play structure and artificial turf mounds in the public area at John Hay Elementary School located at 201 Garfield St. The work will take place during fall 2018 and will be based upon a conceptual design created with significant public input.
