Georgetown Merchants Association

The Georgetown Carnival is a free, one-day, arts & music-focused street fair centered in Georgetown’s historic business district. The 2025 Carnival will take place on June 14, 12-10 pm, on Airport Way S between 12th Ave S & Corson Ave. The Carnival is a celebration of the neighborhood and its unique place as an artistic and small business haven surrounded by large-scale industry. It brings visibility to the neighborhood artists and businesses, and gives our small residential community a day of fun focused on our special neighborhood. With a residential population of only 1700, Georgetown’s small businesses rely on customers from other parts of Seattle to remain viable. Events like Carnival are vital in increasing the visibility of our local artists and businesses, and create a lasting economic impact by introducing new people to the neighborhood and encouraging them to return. In 2023, we welcomed over 5,000 people to the Carnival, many of whom were first time visitors to Georgetown.

Georgetown Merchants Association

Our project is the revival of the annual Georgetown Carnival. Carnival has been a tradition going on 14 years, with 2023 being it's official return post-COVID. Carnival is a one day music and arts festival, taking place from 12pm - 10 pm along Airport Way S, and 12th Ave S in the Georgetown Neighborhood. Featuring live performances on three stages, booths for local vendors and artists, industrial art displays, and children's activities. The purpose of Carnival is to increase visibility of businesses in Georgetown. The businesses in Georgetown cannot be sustained by our small residential population alone.

Georgetown Community Council

For the past few years, the Georgetown Community Council has provided a community-building event in the form of a Post-Holiday Party. We have depended entirely on donated goods and services in order to extend an open invitation to everyone who lives in Georgetown. Neighbors have come together to eat, drink, meet one another or catch up with friends, discuss our hopes and dreams for the neighborhood and to vote in the Board of GCC for the new year. Our community has responded so favorably to this event, and we feel that it truly makes us closer, more resilient, and stronger together.

Georgetown Association of Arts and Culture

The Georgetown Halloween Parade is a free community event on October 31, 2024. The family-friendly parade will be open to the public for participation and for viewing. Georgetown Association of Arts and Culture will host a number of free workshops leading up to the parade teaching people to do special effects make-up and prop-building, among other skills that can help them prepare for the parade. Many businesses and venues along Airport Way are coordinating with GTAAC to provide post-parade programming that night. This project will be completed by December 31, 2024.

Urban ArtWorks

The Georgetown Mural Program is an arts-based employment opportunity for up to 10 teens experiencing economic barriers and systemic inequality in the Georgetown neighborhood. This program is a partnership between Urban ArtWorks (UA)s and Mini Mart City Park (MMCP), a new community arts center in Georgetown. Mentored by a UA professional teaching artist, teens will be paid a stipend to design and install a mural at MMCP. The project will culminate in a publicly accessible mural unveiling and solo art exhibit at the new MMCP gallery. The anticipate project completion date is September 30, 2021.

Coltura

On November 5th, 2017, community group, Coltura, will create a Georgetown No-Gas Mural. The mural will be installed at 969 S. Nebraska St. The public will be invited to Georgetown Art Attack Day to dedicate and celebrate the unveiling of the mural on November 11th. The goal of the Georgetown No-Gas Mural is to invite viewers to think about the use of gasoline in all the ways it touches them - the effect on their community and society, and to transform their thoughts to action. This mural is an effort to address community concerns regarding environmental justice through art.

Georgetown Steam Plant CDA

The Georgetown Steam Plant Science Fair is a two-day, community-driven celebration of SHTEAM – science, history, technology, engineering, art, and math. Curated to spark curiosity, connection, and critical thinking for all ages, this event empowers participants by moving them from the role of “observer” into “active contributor” to community development. Hosted at the historic Georgetown Steamplant, the fair blends hands-on experiments, scientific demos, community dialogue, data visualizations, interactive exhibits, art installations, and more to inspire makers, thinkers, and problem solvers. With the theme “Break the System,” this year’s fair challenges participants to reimagine outdated systems and structures – industrial, social, or ecological – and explore bold and regenerative solutions for the future. Along with exhibits, there will be food trucks, performances, and more! The event is free, family-friendly, and rooted in the values of community and collaboration.

Georgetown Super 8 Film Festival

The Georgetown Super 8 Film Festival group will host the Georgetown Super 8 Film Festival at the OxBow gallery located at 6118 12th Ave S. The festival kicks off on May 11th and have a 2 week showing. The event will be free and open to the public.

West Seattle Junction Association

GLOWS-Glorious Lights of West Seattle Festival is a community interactive light show. We will hire artists to dress up in light costumes and encourage the community to come out dressed in lights parade around during the Hometown Holidays on December 3rd from 4-9pm. This will bring the community together to be inspired by the beauty of light during our dark winter. This will be free and open to all.

Historic Seattle Preservation Foundation

Historic Seattle will conduct a seismic retrofit of the Good Shepherd Center located at 4649 Sunnyside Ave North in Wallingford. The building has been designated a Community Emergency Hub by The City of Seattle's Office of Emergency Management, however, SDCI has identified the building as a `Critical Risk` due to construction type and tenant vulnerability. This funding will allow for the precision opening of the walls and ceilings to facilitate the installation of the out-of-plane anchorages which are the connectors that tie the floor and wall framing together. This work is the highest priority identified by our engineer/architect team. This phase of the retrofit will be completed by December 30, 2022.

Gospel Extravaganza Leadership

The Gospel Extravaganza is a family friendly event that celebrates and highlights the importance of Gospel Music in the Black Community will take place on Wednesday, January 1, 2020 from noon to 6:00 pm at Goodwill Baptist Church, 126 15th Ave Seattle WA 98122. The purpose of Gospel Extravaganza is to foster community building and inclusion using the medium of music.

Refugee Artisan Initiative

The grand opening of our Makers Space in Lake City invites the public to celebrate people and crafts from all over the world. The event will be held at 12545 Lake City Way NE on Wednesday December 4, 2019 from 4-7:00 p.m. Our artisans are refugees and immigrants from Bhutan, China, Vietnam, Ethiopia, Afghanistan, Morocco, and other countries. They will share their handmade garments and crafts from their own cultures, as well as food and music from their countries of origin. This free event will build connections between newly-arrived refugee families and the greater Seattle community into which they are integrating. This project will be completed by January 31, 2020.

Capital grants and per diem payments to community agencies providing transitional housing and supportive services to homeless veterans.

Institute of Museum and Library Services

Population-based formula grants to State Library Administrative Agencies for statewide library services and technology initiatives.

Black and Tan Hall

The Green Book Tour is an app that Black & Tan Hall has developed to celebrate historic businesses that paved the way for Seattle's many entrepreneurs of frontline communities living here today. The app is poised to draw together 30+ partners and other local community members to develop and expand the app to include audio content, community input, enhanced accessibility features, and additional sites. This project is anticipated to be completed by June 30, 2022.

Green Lake Elementary PTA

Green Lake Elementary PTA will hire a design team to develop a master plan for Green Lake Elementary School's (2400 N. 65th St) active space area that is more inclusive and inviting to the school and the neighborhood. Three community meetings will be held. A master plan and phase 1 construction documents will be prepared by June 2019.

Friends of Green Lake

The Friends of Green Lake will install a pair of floating wetlands in Green Lake located at 7201 East Green Lake Drive N to improve native bird habitat, fish habitat, water quality, aesthetic value, and wetland education for Seattle's most precious and used resource. Our preliminary design includes two floating islands totaling 1,300 ft2 that will be finalized with input from our design team and project stakeholders. Upon grant receipt, we will prepare the bid request, select the most qualified vendor to supply the floating wetlands and design, and organize volunteers for the planting and installation of the wetlands in the spring of 2022. This project will be completed by December 30, 2022.

Rowing Advisory Council (Green Lake Small Craft Center)

The Rowing Advisory Council will lead the continuation of efforts to redevelop the Green Lake Small Craft Center (GLSCC). Funds will be used to facilitate a community engagement process, which will include three public meetings between April and November of 2018. Other key outcomes will be the selection of an architect, completion of a schematic design, crafting of a fundraising plan and the initiation of the capital campaign strategy.

Concord International Elementary PTA

Concord Elementary School PTA will contract with a landscape architect and structural engineering team to prepare the schematic design and permit specifications for Phase II of the Greening Concord International Elementary School project. The improvements will create a safe, accessible and welcoming place for school and neighborhood members alike.

Greenwood Station P-Patch

The Greenwood Station P-Patch located at 8905 Fremont Ave. wants to increase participation and outreach to the greater Greenwood community by improving physical accessibility and safety, improve current infrastructure and open space at the P-Patch garden to benefit current users, and visitors. This project is free and open to the public. The project is expected to be complete in the early Fall of 2022

Chinatown-International District Small Business Heritage Group

A curated recipe cookbook, visual history, and profile of today's Seattle Chinatown-ID and Little Saigon restaurants and its founders. This hybrid cookbook and series of small business profiles feature the neighborhood's famed dishes and the stories behind the restaurant owners' beginnings, grit, and evolution. A curation of 20-25 local, BIPOC-owned restaurants will feature in a 65-75-page book. It's a celebratory yet intimate portrait of the neighborhood's restaurants and owners, delivered in an accessible, visually compelling way and intended for a broad audience.

Miller School of Art

Group multi-media art show bringing together a broad spectrum of individuals ranging in age, gender, and race. Highlighting a unique community from the Miller School of Art, that has grown together while exploring their own artistic pathways and using painting as a way to build relationships and community.

Growing Vine Street

Growing Vine Street 2020 brings new life to the award-winning 1990’s green-street project of the same name. This project will increase organizational capacity and engage the community in a dialogue about green space needs, neighborhood history and sustainable utilization of storm water through two community events.

OCA Greater Seattle

OCA Greater Seattle will host events to honor the nineteenth century Chinese railroad workers involved in building the US transcontinental railroad. The events will include film screenings, food, and presentations on May 10, 2019 from 12 pm - 6 pm at the Wing Luke Museum located at 719 S King and other locations in Seattle. A photography exhibit and discussion about the railroad workers will be held at Seattle Public Library located at 1000 4th Ave on May 19, 2019 from 12 pm - 1 pm.
