Skate Like A Girl and Youth Employment Skateboarding (YES)

A free and open community gathering will be hosted at Cal Anderson Courts, 1635 11th Avenue, on Saturday, May 4th from 4-10pm. The event will create space for, celebrate, and affirm queer and trans skateboarders as part of Skate Like a Girl's Wheels of Fortune Weekend. The event will feature music, a skate jam, and prizes for attendees.

Refugee Artisan Initiative

RAI will be hosting an artisan-led RAI Holiday Elves WorkSHOP! in collaboration with Lake City community partners, Children's Home Society of Washington (CHSW), Build Lake City Together (BLCT), Thriftology, and Coyote North, and the help of our strong volunteer community to continue to introduce North Seattle to RAI artisans (refugee and immigrant women). The event will be on December 7, 2022 from 3:00 - 7:00 pm located at 12337 Lake City Way NE. Artisan's handmade crafts will be available and during the event, two to three artisans will demonstrate their sewing skills by offering a `mending and embellishment session` with community members to bedazzle clothing or upcycle holiday ornaments using products from Thriftology, Lake City's local thrift store. There will also offer fabric card-making using upcycled fabric to design holiday cards that guests can take home. This project will be completed by February 28, 2023.

Refugee Artisan Initiative

RAI will host the RAI Holiday Work(shop) in Lake City on December 9th from 5-7 p.m. This is a free buy local event at our Lake City makerspace located at 12545 Lake City Way NE. Guests will meet our refugee and immigrant women Artisans during makerspace tours and various crafting workshops that will demonstrate the skills of our Artisans. Capacity is limited to 10 occupants who will sign up in advance for a 30 - 45 minute time slot, but the demonstrations will be recorded and edited for public access and posted on the RAI website and social media. RAI Holiday Work(shop) in Lake City will elevate awareness about reducing garment industry waste, show the public how RAI Artisans divert textile waste from landfills, and demonstrate that RAI is a welcoming and safe workplace for immigrant and refugee women, a place that has become a cultural hub in Lake City. This project will be completed by January 31,2022.

Rainier Beach Community Club

The Rainier Beach Community Club will have a series of work parties starting on September 8th through October 7th that will take place at 6038 S Pilgrim St. The aim of the project is to do site improvements to the almost 100 year old building that serves as a neighborhood hub to the Rainier Beach community. There will be interior and exterior painting along with some landscaping of the grounds. The site improvements will provide a welcoming well-kept facility, which the Rainier Beach community will hopefully use for another 100 years.

Friends of Rainier Valley Creative District

The Friends of Rainer Valley Creative District are hosting the 2023 Rainier Valley Community Arts Resource Fair (Arts Resource Fair) will take place on Sunday, August 20, 2023 in Columbia Park (located at the north end of Rainier Valley) from 11AM to 7PM. This is a full day multi-purpose event that will provide arts, culture, education, health, legal, housing, and business resources to the general public with a particular focus on the needs of creative businesses in the Rainier Valley.

Friends of Ravenna-Cowen

Friends of Ravenna-Cowen, FORC, will conduct outreach and host a public meeting to get input on the design and location of historic district signs indicating arrival at entry points to the new Ravenna-Cowen North National Historic District. The signs will be fabricated and installed by the City of Seattle Department of Transportation on up to 11 street modular sign standards. FORC will host a community celebrations when the signs have been installed. This project will be completed by June 28, 2019.

Hakfen Media

Hakfen Media along with the Tigrean Community Association located at 1902 E Yesler Way. Will be hosting a series of community led activities such as talking circles, digital trainings and community engagement. The purpose of such activities is to re-engage, remobilize and strengthen the Tigrean community that has been affected by COVID, and civil war in the home country. The project is free and open to all who want to participate. The project will be completed in the Fall of 2022.

Funding supports maintenance and renovation of trails that provide a "backcountry experience," for both motorized and non -motorized trail users. Education projects are also eligible.

Republican P-Patch

The awarded funds will be used by Republican P-Patch to build a new fence, repair the leaky shed, replace broken garden tools, design educational signage, and rebuild the dilapidated compost bins. These improvements will make the P-Patch better neighbors, better stewards of the soil, and create a more welcoming space for the community. This project is located at 503 20th Ave E and will be completd by July 31, 2020.

Republican P-Patch

The Republican P-Patch will use the awarded funds to purchase items for phase 2 of the Republican P-Patch site improvements project. This includes purchasing a new picnic table for our gathering area, creating new signage, hosting an open house community gathering, replacing broken tools, purchasing new soil for community demonstration beds and replacing cedar play chips in the community paths to ensure easy accessibility by all. This project will be completed by July 29, 2022.

Friends of Republican P-Patch

We will use the awarded funds to purchase items for phase 3 of the Republican P-Patch site improvements project. This includes building additional dahlia beds for our communal flower garden, purchasing dahlias, purchasing additional plants for our existing communal / demo beds, creating new signage, hosting an open house / community gathering, replacing broken tools, purchasing new soil for community / demo beds and pruning of our large garden trees to enhance community picnic table seating area. The anticipated project completion date is May 31, 2025.

South End Seattle Arts Center dba ReVision Arts

ReVision Arts wants to make accessible our Rainier Valley Neighborhood Art Grant Projects and ReVision Arts Annual Please Touch Tactile Exhibit. This will include: 1) Translation and Interpretation of Neighborhood Art Grant Projects as needed. Public sub grantee events will be April to Sept. To create an accessible projects meeting ADA, we need $$ for Sign Language Interpreters for sub grantee events in the Rainier Valley. 2) Orientation on April 4th a) Provision of Interpreters for sub grantee Orientation b) Presentation regarding access and event planning 3) ReVision Arts will bring Please Touch Tactile Art Exhibit to Rainier Valley to celebrate the ADA Anniversary 2023. Attendance is free and open to all. For above events: Subgrantees mother tongue may not be English, we will provide language interpretation as requested. We want to close caption digital presentations. Digital translation is not always accurate, we need an editor /proof reader.

Kirke P-Patch

Kirke P-Patch, located at 7028 9th Ave NW Seattle WA, was built in 2012 with 38 garden plots. We have a wonderful group of gardeners who support each other, the community including Ballard Food Bank, and help maintain Kirke Park. Since 2012, the wood around the P-Patch raised beds has deteriorated badly. We have many spots of rotting wood and a few places where the boards are ready to give way, posing a safety hazard for children as they walk on the unstable wood edges. This grant will support the purchase of new lumber and materials to replace the boards. We believe this project will contribute to the revitalization of Kirke Park P-Patch for many years to come. The anticipated project completion date is April 30, 2026.

Seattle Rideshare Drivers Association

Seattle Rideshare Drivers Association (SRDA) is organizing a Rideshare Drivers and Riders Appreciation Day at Judkins Park 2150 S. Norman Street on April 15, 2022, 12-6 pm. The event will bring together Uber and Lyft Drivers and Riders to appreciate one another and forge a path back to normality following the severe disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Project Goals: Build relationships and community among rideshare drivers, their families and riders, Provide resources and information to drivers about local services, e.g. subsidized housing, health insurance, and training programs to learn various skills, Hear drivers' ideas for future work we can do together as SRDA. This project will be completed by June 30, 2022.

Interbay P-Patch Community Gardeners

The Interbay P- Patch community will work with their neighbors to replace the roofing on the tool and food bank structures. These enhancements will give the garden an aesthetically consistent and secure look from the street.

WEST AFRICAN RELIEF CENTER

Roots & Rhythm: West African Story Circle is a community storytelling event that honors the rich oral traditions of West African cultures while creating space for connection, celebration, and healing. Organized by the West African Relief Center, the event will bring together elders, youth, and neighbors for an evening filled with folktales, drumming, dancing, and shared food. The event is more than entertainment, it’s a way to preserve culture, uplift immigrant and refugee voices, and build deeper bonds across generations and backgrounds. It’s a reminder that everyone belongs, and that our stories matter. The event will be held at the Rainier Beach Community Center located at 8825 Rainer Ave S Seattle WA on September 20, 2025, from 2 to 6PM and is free and open to the public.

ROOTS Celebration Committee

The ROOTS Celebration Committee will host a free public event on September 1, 2019 from 10 am to 6 pm at Jimi Hendrix located at 2400 S Massachusetts St and at the adjacent Sam Smith Park located at 1400 Martin Luther King Jr Wy S. This iconic annual celebration of African American culture will feature storytelling, art, music, and community building.

Friends of Roots Without Borders

The Friends of Roots Without Borders will be hosting `Music to Build Community` a series of five arts and culture events that illuminate the roots of music and dance in the Americas, The first event is going to take place on March 5, 2023 at Broadway Performance Hall, 1625 Broadway, Seattle, WA 98122. Rehearsals for all five events will take place at Sunset Hill Community Association. Other event will take place on May 8th, September 17th, November 4th and another in December, start times will be confirmed prior to events. The series will follow the evolution of arts and culture from a time before borders. Event programs will feature professional artists of diverse disciplines and cultures, highlighting indigenous music and folkloric dance from Olmec, Zapotec, Maya, Toltec, Aztec and Lummi peoples. The event is free and open to the public.

Friends of Safe Access: Street to Park

`Friends of Safe Access: Street to Park` is requesting funding for a community-driven design process that will create a conceptual plan for a safe and accessible west entry to Mt. Baker Park for all neighbors, families, and visitors. This grant is to solicit and hire a design firm to work with the community in preparing conceptual drawings for the replacement of the steep, hazardous, and slippery trail/path that currently exists.

Multimedia Resources and Training Institute

The Multimedia Resources and Training Institute will be hosting a one year project that will promote safety awareness, youth engagement, community collaboration, and safety education to build a stronger and safer community at Yesler Terrace. This project will educate, inspire, and empower residents to take ownership of their community’s safety and foster a stronger Yesler community, our project will focus on: Community safety education through events, speakers, and digital outreach, media storytelling to document and share safety initiatives, community engagement, neighborhood watch programs, and youth and parent empowerment to strengthen safety efforts. The events and activities will be free and open to the public and will be completed in the summer of 2026.
