Chinatown International District - Through the Eyes of a Tiger

Our team of photographers have come together to gather a body of work which documents what's going on in the Seattle Chinatown/International District (CID) during 2022, the lunar Year of the Tiger. The goal is to explore the space and capture moments of what's occurring within the boundaries of this historic neighborhood. The project will include a website displaying donated photos, a gallery exhibition that is free and open to the public at the Nisei Veterans Committee Hall, and a free workshop on How to shoot photos in the Chinatown-International District. The anticipated project close out date is July 31, 2023.

CID Cares Committee

CID Cares: Care for Community, Care for Self will be held in International District/Chinatown Community Center located at 719 8th Ave S Seattle, WA, on October 26th, 2024 from 11am-3pm. This event will be free and open to the public. We will offer voting assistance for our elderly, with appointments for much needed medical check-ups and immunizations, bystander safety training for elderly and neighborhood watch groups, as well as mental health awareness and counseling in language.

Seattle Asian American Film Festival

The Seattle Asian American Film Festival will screen free films at Hing Hay Park, 423 Maynard Avenue South on two successive Saturdays, August 18th and 25th, 2018. The films are targeted to Asian Americans in the surrounding community with the film on August 18th being screened in it's original Chinese language. The screening on August 25th will focus on the Japanese American internment during WWII. The films will be preceded by live performances and arts and crafts.

Cider Pressing Planning Committee

The Cider Pressing Planning Committee will host a free community event to celebrate the bounty of autumn. It will feature cider pressing using apples from neighborhood orchards, food, and live entertainment. It will be held on September 22 from 10 am - 3 pm on 14th Ave NW between NW 95th St and NW 100th St.

Friends of Hip Hop is Green

The medium of Hip Hop will be used to create holistic community educational programming focusing on healthier eating. Over a 12 month period this will includes a series of youth led events, community urban farming, musical performances and a culinary program.

We R Seattle

The project will organize and hold community conversations throughout Seattle to address key issues facing the city with solutions. From the conversation, we hope to define a shared vision for moving the city forward, come to a consensus on the most critical priorities, layout specific solutions to address issues/priorities, and to organize information gathered in conversations. The anticipated project completion date is October 29, 2021.

Helping Link

Helping Link/Một Dấu Nối, located at 1032 S Jackson St Ste C Seattle Wa 98104, plans to survey two subsets of the Vietnamese American population: first-generations immigrant and Vietnamese Americans. The goal is to identify how to increase participation within the Vietnamese American community and to increase the community's presence in Seattle. The project is anticipated to end by December 31, 2020.

2100 Project

Our nonprofit is partnering with two student clubs at the Foster School of Business to organize a UW-wide case competition that will help promote clean buildings. Commercial buildings in Seattle will have to make major energy upgrades in the coming years to comply with new legislation. There is a major gap in outreach and communications, particularly for underserved property owners. We are challenging students from all backgrounds to come up with market ready innovations related to clean buildings outreach and communications. This project will be completed by July 29, 2022.

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Competitive grants for climate adaptation planning and implementation in coastal and Great Lakes communities, including vulnerability assessments and resilience strategies.

350 Seattle

350 Seattle will re-launch Climate Community Night. Pre-pandemic, this event was a vibrant community space that brought together an average of 100 people each month, facilitated connections across neighborhoods and helped people plug into the local movement for climate justice. 350 Seattle will host CCN events January through June 2025 on the third Thursday of the month, from 6:30-8:30pm at the U-Heights Community Center in the University District. There will be a new member welcome from 6-6:30, followed by a potluck from 6:30-7, programming from 7-7:30 and then community-building time from 7:30-8pm. This project will be completed by July 2025.

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Grants to coastal states for implementing approved coastal zone management programs, including planning, permitting, and resource protection.

Coe Kids Crossing Community Group

Our project calls for safety improvements to the W. McGraw St. and 7th Ave. W. crosswalk near Coe Elementary School. Coe has over 500 students, most of whom walk to school, some unescorted. We have developed a plan with SDOT for installing a concrete floating curb-bulb and new signage that will greatly improve the visibility of pedestrians using the crosswalk and better alert drivers to their presence. This project is also aligned with Seattle's Vision Zero and Safe Routes to Schools plans to improve safety on our streets near schools.

Belltown Collage Community Project

May 9th through June 7th Collage-O-Rama will be a drop-in location at Slip Gallery, 2301 1st Ave, for the public to make art and make friends, regardless of previous art experience level, with all supplies provided. The project enables free access to artists from a variety of backgrounds who are willing to share knowledge and information about resources. The approachable art form of collage allows visitors to create and display their work, even if it is their first time doing so. This project will be completd by July 31, 2025.

Amigos De Seattle

Colors of Heritage: Central American Folklore and Culture celebrates and preserves the traditions, music, dance, and history of Central America. Amigos de Seattle will host free and open to the public workshops in focusing on a different country—Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama. Activities include folklore performances, traditional attire displays, and cultural exchanges, with live broadcasts on ADS Radio and social media. By offering traditional dances, instruments, and oral histories, it fosters cultural pride, intercultural understanding, and provides a platform for Central American artists. Engaging youth, families, and the broader community, the program promotes cultural continuity, inclusion, and mutual respect for future generations. The workshops will be held at Vee Sau Preschool Community Hall located at 1200 10th Ave E Seattle WA. The anticipated project completion date is November 30, 2026.

Peace Peloton

The Columbia City Night Market Holiday Series will bring neighbors together for two vibrant community events on November 15 and December 20, 2025. As a trusted South Seattle mainstay, the Market strengthens small businesses, prioritizes Black- and BIPOC-owned vendors, and provides a joyful, inclusive space where art, music, food, and culture thrive. With four years of proven impact, the Night Market drives critical holiday revenue for local merchants while fostering equity and belonging. The anticipated project completion date is January 31, 2026.

Columbia Hillman Neighbors in Action

Planning and design for a neighborhood (parklet) near the center of the Columbia City business district at 3806 South Ferdinand Street. The project involves maintaining operation of the existing temporary Covid-related street closure (Street Use Permit # SUFUN0001289) while planning, designing and applying for a permanent parklet at the same location. The existing temporary closure (called `the Patio`) has provided an outdoor Covid-safe seating area for use by the customers of all our Columbia City restaurants and shops. There is broad neighborhood support for converting the temporary closure to a permanent community parklet. This project will be completed by December 31, 2021,

Seattle Repertory Theater

Seattle Rep will produce a Community Sing-Along at one performance during the run of the musical Come From Away. The Community Sing-Along will be free to the public and led by volunteers who will take free musical theater workshops in advance of the event to learn the music and lead the audience in song. Up to 669 people will be able to enjoy a free performance of this world-renowned musical and feel closer to the art onstage by singing together with professional actors and community members. The free event will be held on December 31, 2025, at 12Pm in Seattle Rep’s Bagley Wright Theater located at 155 Mercer St, Seattle WA 98109.

One of the largest Catholic health systems supporting community health improvement, health equity, and social determinants of health across 21 states.

African Ethnic Media Seattle

African Ethnic Media Seattle will train approximately seven youth aged 16 to 21 in video production, journalistic writing, and web design. The trainings will be held at 1225 South Weller St during summer 2018. The youth participants will then work with community leaders to develop approximately six community forums on topics that affect immigrant communities and communities of color. The forums will be held at various public locations between fall 2018 and spring 2019.

SouthEast Effective Development

Columbia City Gallery (CCG) requests funding to establish a community advisory task force to help realign our practices with the changing needs of Southeast Seattle. Our goal is to expand pathways for participation for BIPOC Southeast Seattle artists and organizations, and to ensure that our exhibitions and membership reflect the SE Seattle community. To better understand community needs, we will engage with five BIPOC artists and local arts advocates. They will review the Gallery's operating model, which as a cooperative requires member artists to pay monthly dues and work gallery shifts, and identify ways to shift towards a more equitable model. We will develop plants to reduce barriers to participation for underserved artists and better reflect the diversity of 98118. The group will meet twice/month for 3 months. We also plan to work with an EDI consultant to ensure the process is structured in an equity-centric way.

Northwest Folklife

Northwest Folklife is leading this community-driven project to digitize and preserve recordings of folk performances from the 1990s and 2000s, ensuring that these invaluable cultural artifacts remain accessible to the public. Through a series of viewing and digitization events (June 2025 - May 2026), located at 305 Harrison St folk artists and community members will reconnect with their histories, contribute missing metadata (e.g., performer names, musical styles, repertoire), and develop hands-on digitization skills. This project fosters intergenerational connections, cultural storytelling, and heritage preservation, while increasing public access to archival materials that were previously inaccessible due to outdated formats. With this funding, NW Folklife will bridge archival recordings with the communities they represent, ensuring that these histories are actively shared, celebrated, and sustained for future generations. The project is free and open to the public.

Friends of the Jackson Park P-Patch

The purpose of this project is to build community, not just amongst the gardeners at Jackson Park P-Patch, but especially within the community that exists around the garden. We intend to do this by putting a pumpkin patch on the south side of the garden, and a children's garden consisting of pollinator friendly flowers on the west side of the garden. To make this a reality, we will hire a contractor to add two hose risers and bring the P-Patch irrigation system up to current city code. This project will be completed by December 30, 2022.

Renaissance 21

Renaissance 21 along with Star Tech Global Academy will collaborate on a new educational content series focused on engaging youth in intersectional climate justice efforts in local neighborhoods focusing on BIPOC youth. The project will take place at two community centers, the Rainer Beach Community Center,8825 Rainier Ave S and Garfield Teen Life Center, 2323 E Cherry St. The project is free and open to public participation, and complete in late Spring of 2023.
