Project Ready to Learn, Year 2
Ready to Learn Coalition
About This Grant
The objective of the Ready to Learn project is to address Oregon’s 40/20/20 Vision by addressing early childhood education. Year one of Project Ready to Learn is currently underway and being managed by a Program Coordinator, three Outreach Staff Workers and a coalition of public libraries and partners in Union, Umatilla, Grant, Baker and Wallowa Counties. Ready to Learn library cards have been issued to families of children birth through age five. Each time a book is checked out or a library program is attended children accrue $.02 per activity. The accumulated credits are being deposited into an Oregon College Savings Plan Account connecting early learning and kindergarten readiness with college attendance as an end goal. In addition to incentivizing library use, monthly newsletters and early learning objectives are the focus of programs of quarterly parent trainings. Kindergarten Readiness Assessment scores will be compared with non-Ready to Learn participants upon completion of the program.
