About This Grant

If there is no change, enter No changes to the abstract or NONE. Adipocyte dyfuntion results in reduced BAT thermogenesis, low-grade chronic inflammation, fatty liver, and systemic insulin resistance. Still poorly understood are the mechanisms that trigger diet-induced obesity-associated adipocyte dysfunction. Our studies have identified that the transcription factor, interferon regulatory factor 8 (IRF8) is expressed constitutively in adipocytes of mice fed a low fat diet and when mice are fed a high fat diet (HFD) IRF8 expression is increased in white adipose tissue and brown adipose tissue adipocytes. Our preliminary studies position adipocyte IRF8 as an important transiption factor regulating brown and white adipocyte gene expression and metabolism, insulin resistance and diet-induced obesity and associated metabolic complications. Our goal is to ultimately define the specific role of IRF8 in white and brown adipocytes on adipocyte and systemic metabolism in mice fed a low fat and high fat diet to induce diet-induced obesity
