Project Summary/Abstract The NeuroData AI Summer School addresses a critical skills gap in neurophysiology research by providing intensive training in AI-enhanced data analysis methods using standardized open datasets. Despite unprecedented availability of neurophysiology data through DANDI (380+ datasets, 350+ TB) and major collaborative efforts like the International Brain Laboratory and Allen Institute's OpenScope, utilization remains dramatically underexploited due to researchers lacking computational expertise in cloud computing, standardized data formats, and AI applications to neural data. Building upon four years of successful NeuroDataReHack programs (unanimous 5/5 satisfaction ratings, 100% peer network formation), we propose a transformative five-day intensive residential program training 35 participants annually in advanced neurophysiology data analysis. The program features four complementary aims: (1) providing hands-on training in neurophysiology data standards (NWB, DANDI) and analysis tools (SpikeInterface, Pynapple, VAME, Neurosift); (2) introducing AI-enhanced approaches including foundation models, machine learning for neural decoding, and transfer learning methods; (3) fostering a community of practice through collaborative learning and team-based projects; and (4) generating novel scientific insights through secondary analysis of high-quality open datasets. The curriculum employs a carefully structured progression from foundational data skills to advanced AI applications, culminating in collaborative research projects using real datasets from OpenScope, IBL, and MICrONS. Participants will work directly with world-class faculty including the developers of key neurophysiology tools and leading researchers in AI applications to neural data. The intensive residential format at Janelia Research Campus enables deep skill development impossible in typical workshop settings while building lasting professional networks. All educational materials will be professionally recorded and made publicly available, extending impact beyond direct participants through a comprehensive online repository. The program will create a cadre of researchers skilled in modern computational approaches while catalyzing a cultural shift toward collaborative, reproducible neuroscience research that maximizes return on federal research investments. This nationally organized program provides access to expertise unavailable at individual institutions, directly addressing workforce development needs at the intersection of neurophysiology, data science, and artificial intelligence.
