About This Grant
Purpose of the Program.a. The purpose of the Lead-Based Paint Hazard Control Grant Program is to assist states, Native American Tribes, cities, counties/parishes, or other units of local government in undertaking comprehensive programs to identify and control lead-based paint hazards in eligible privately owned rental or owner-occupied housing.b. The purpose of the Lead Hazard Reduction Demonstration Grant Program is the same as the Lead-Based Paint Hazard Control, but with the exception that the Lead Hazard Reduction Demonstration Grant Program is targeted for urban jurisdictions with the greatest lead-based paint hazard control needs.c. The purpose of the Operation Lead Elimination Action Program (LEAP) is to leverage private sector resources to eliminate lead poisoning as a major public health threat to children under age six living in eligible privately owned housing units.Available Funds. Approximately $132 million (Lead-Based Paint Hazard Control Grant Program, Lead Hazard Reduction Demonstration Grant Program and Operation Lead Elimination Action Program) is available from current and previous years funding.3. Match. Matching funds are required for the Lead-Based Paint Hazard Control Grant Program and Lead Hazard Reduction Demonstration Grant Program. For the Lead Hazard Reduction Demonstration Grant Program, HUD may grant a waiver of the 25 percent match requirement, if the applicant submits a request that meets HUD s criteria.
