Reduce & Control Oleander Propulations at Grantham Camp Grounds in Death Valley NP
About This Grant
A.Project Goals Oleander grows exceedingly fast where water is abundant as is the case at Grantham Camp (also known as Warm Spring Camp). This site has natural springs and spring flow as well as a man-made ditch north of the building structures. Oleander infests the water courses in the area and has encroached upon several of the structures and their foundations resulting in damage or potential damage. The goal of this project is to remove rogue oleanders in and along spring brooks and the man-made ditch, and any plants that have encroached around the buildings. Cut stump method and herbicide application would be used so the plants do not re-sprout at least from the cut stump. In addition, there would be more than one treatment of these plants as they are extremely invasive and can re-sprout from root suckers. Oleander that was planted as part of the cultural landscape would be trimmed and cut back. B.Project Objectives The objectives for this project are to acquire conservation corps members to perform the work needed to achieve the proposed goals and eliminate rogue oleander growing in and along the water course and any that have encroached on the landscape that were not planted as part of the cultural landscape, those plants will be trimmed and thinned.
