A Community Boathouse for All in Magnuson Park
About This Grant
Demand for Sail Sand Point (SSP)'s programming is rapidly increasing. The diverse community of Magnuson Park deserves premier access to the unique asset it has at its back door: waterfront access to Lake Washington. Current boathouse facilities are unsafe, unwelcoming and not fully accessible to all members of our community. SSP seeks to create a welcoming, inclusive, fully ADA accessible and world-class community boating center that will allow more people to experience the mental and physical health benefits of recreating in the outdoors, and to provide safe access and oversight to the lake. After completing an extensive feasibility study (including predesign) and community engagement process, we now seek NMF funds to conduct the next critical steps in our project: site surveys, permitting and tribal and other stakeholder consultation and community outreach.
