43rd Ave NE Median Restoration Phase 2

About This Grant

There are 14 large planting rounds on the grass medians on 43rd Ave NE between NE 45th Street and NE 38th Street (known as the Boulevard.) In the autumn of 2024, we completed Phase 1 of a Median Restoration Project partially funded by a DON Small Sparks Grant (contract number 024044). We were able to make good progress on 7 of the planting rounds during Phase 1. Now we want to continue the restoration work. Neighbor volunteers continue to hold work parties to maintain the medians by removing dead plants, weeding, trimming and covering with wood chips. But to do the heavier restoration work we will hire a landscaping company to bring in soil, clear out dead shrubs/invasive weeds, sow grass seed, source rhododendron plants, and help install the plants. The anticipated project completion date is November 30, 2025.
