About This Grant

Walk The Block is a free-of-cost & publicly accessible annual outdoor festival that transforms Central District homes, businesses, parks, porches, and other common spaces into art installations and performance sites for everyone in the community to enjoy. Walk the Block is a chance to experience a slice of African American culture that defined the Central District as the hub for Black life in Washington State for over 70 years. Walk the Block draws art lovers from across the region and inspires residents of the Central District to see their neighborhood as a creative, transformative place. On September 28, we will activate the Central District by engaging 3,500 attendees who will experience the work of 100+ Black and Indigenous artists via a series of more than 25 art installations, and more than 40 live performances. Attendees will also get to know 15+ local groups & organizations via onsite tabling, and be introduced to 25+ small BIPOC-owned businesses.
