The primary goal of this project is to add beauty and visual interest to three signal boxes on N. 45th Street, Wallingford's Main Street. This street is a major east-west arterial, offering a large audience the opportunity to view images of Wallingford's identity by transforming these boxes with artwork and historic photos of the area. These boxes sit in the heart of the Wallingford and will be vinyl wrapped and finished with a graffiti resistant laminate. This spearheads a larger effort to tackle graffiti and litter issues on this street and be a prototype for future utility box projects in the neighborhood. The call to artists will offer an opportunity for a diverse, equitable engagement. Guidance from community arts groups will be sought to make this process fair and inclusive. The community will be informed of project progress and with the completion, a community celebration is planned with activities such a station to design replica boxes, and a community clean up.
