About This Grant

We are proposing to increase street lighting through the installation of tree lights from November to March. The lights will be strung along the east and west sides of the 800 block and the west side of the 900 block of Hiawatha Place S. We hope to make this lighting permanent. A winter celebration event will bring neighbors together. Our goal is to create increased visibility, decrease crime, and spread a general sense of community. In previous years residents found the lights reassuring and helpful along both sides of the street. The lights will welcome those entering the community off of transit, riding their bikes, walking their dogs, and visiting friends and businesses in the community. To celebrate and active this light instillation we will have a community gathering in early December. Previous to the event we will hold a community clean-up on the lit area along with surrounding portions of the neighborhood.
