NE 41st Street Median Renovation Project Phase 2
About This Grant
In February 2023, the Laurelhurst Community Club (LCC) competed Phase 1 of a project to renovate the four large medians on NE 41st Street in front of the UW Center of Urban Horticulture. These medians were installed in the 1980's (joint project between UW, SDOT, LCC). The LCC has solely maintained these medians for many years and will continue to maintain them. SDOT Irrigation team manages the sprinklers. Before Phase 1 was complete, the medians were dominated by dead, diseased, overgrown plants and compacted soil. The LCC used a Small Sparks grant, plus neighborhood funds to pay for Phase 1. Volunteers from the neighborhood worked many hours and we contracted with Ragen & Assoc Landscaping to remove the dead plants, bring in soil/compost/mulch and install new plants. This new application is for Phase 2 of the project where we will replace dying Holly Oak trees and add additional plants. We have consulted with SDOT Urban Forestry and they are supportive of the project.
