The Sexual Assault Services Formula Program (SAS Formula Program), per 34 U.S.C. 12511(a)(1), assists states and territories in providing intervention, advocacy, accompaniment, support services, and related assistance for adult, youth, and child victims of sexual assault, family and household members of such victims, and those collaterally affected by the victimization, except for the perpetrator of such victimization.

OVW Fiscal Year 2026 Transitional Housing Assistance Grants for Victims of Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking Program

Office on Violence Against Women

This program reimburses Tribal governments for expenses incurred in exercising Special Tribal Criminal Jurisdiction (STCJ) over non-Indians who commit certain covered crimes (assault of Tribal justice personnel; child, dating, sexual and/or domestic violence; obstruction of justice; sex trafficking; stalking; and protection order violations) in Indian country pursuant to 25 U.S.C. 1304 (or in Alaska Native Villages pursuant to a DOJ pilot program established by 25 U.S.C. 1305(d)).

The Transitional Housing program funds transitional housing and support services for victims who are homeless or in need of transitional housing or other housing assistance because of domestic/dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking (VAWA crimes). Eligible applicants are Tribal, state, and local governments and organizations with a documented history of effective work concerning VAWA crimes.

The Justice for Families program supports activities to improve the response of the civil and criminal justice system to families with a history of domestic/dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking, or in cases involving child sexual abuse. Activities should improve the capacity of courts and communities to respond to families through court-based and court-related programs; supervised visitation and safe exchange of children and youth by and between parents; training for people who work with families in the court system; and civil legal assistance and advocacy services to victims and nonoffending parents. Eligible applicants are Tribal, state, and local governments, courts, nonprofit organizations, legal services providers, and victim service providers.

OVW Fiscal Year 2026 Rural Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking Grant Program (Rural Grant Program)

The Rural Grant Program helps states and territories, Indian Tribes, local governments, and nonprofits to enhance safety and justice for child, youth, and adult victims in rural communities. It funds victim services (such as advocacy, legal assistance, and shelter), investigation, prosecution, adjudication, parole and probation, and other ways of addressing domestic and sexual violence. Per 34 U.S.C. 12341(a), these grants are meant to encourage collaboration, establish and expand nonprofit victim services, increase safety and well-being for women and children in rural communities, and ensure victims in rural areas have access to sexual assault medical forensic exams.

The Abby Honold Program helps law enforcement improve how they respond to domestic/dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking from the time of a victim s initial report throughout the investigation.

The Legal Assistance for Victims Grant Program increases access to legal assistance for victims of domestic/dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking who are seeking relief in legal matters relating to or arising out of that abuse or violence. It funds projects that provide comprehensive legal assistance, as defined in 34 U.S.C. 12291(a)(24). The projects must include organizations that have a mission and history of providing direct services to victims of domestic/dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking.
