Historic Seattle Preservation Foundation

Historic Seattle will conduct a seismic retrofit of the Good Shepherd Center located at 4649 Sunnyside Ave North in Wallingford. The building has been designated a Community Emergency Hub by The City of Seattle's Office of Emergency Management, however, SDCI has identified the building as a `Critical Risk` due to construction type and tenant vulnerability. This funding will allow for the precision opening of the walls and ceilings to facilitate the installation of the out-of-plane anchorages which are the connectors that tie the floor and wall framing together. This work is the highest priority identified by our engineer/architect team. This phase of the retrofit will be completed by December 30, 2022.

Historic Seattle Preservation Foundation

This project will transform the grounds around the Dearborn House into a native plant demonstration garden. Dearborn House is a designated Seattle landmark that is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The house serves as the administrative office for Historic Seattle. The goal of the project is to create a welcoming public space that highlights the culture of the Coast Salish peoples. Using native plants as the medium, the garden will create a unique opportunity for people to deepen their understanding of and appreciation for the bountiful history and culture of these indigenous people, including their deep relationship with the natural world. The new garden will connect the present with the past through native plants. Signage will be incorporated to identify plants with their botanical name, the Native Lushootseed name and pronunciation, and information on how they've been used traditionally as well as the benefits they can bring to home landscapes.
